An Inspired Chat with Nekki B. of Sandy Springs

We recently had the chance to connect with Nekki B. and have shared our conversation below.

Nekki , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, integrity is most important. Intelligence and energy are valuable, but integrity is what sustains everything. In my business, people trust me not just with their hair but with their self-esteem and their well-being. If I don’t have integrity—if I’m not honest, consistent, and operating from a place of authenticity—then my knowledge and passion won’t truly serve people. Integrity allows my energy to flow in the right direction and my intelligence to be used for purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nekki B., and I am the founder of Nekki B. Styles. I’m a Master Cosmetologist and Loctician with a passion for helping people experience healthy hair care as a form of true self-care. What makes my brand unique is that I don’t just focus on styling hair—I focus on the whole person. I combine luxury services with holistic practices, so my clients leave not only with beautiful, healthy hair, but also feeling renewed, confident, and cared for.

My journey has been about merging my love for beauty with my belief in restoration—hair care as healing, not just maintenance. Right now, I’m also working on expanding into my own healthy hair care product line, designed with organic and holistic ingredients, so clients can take the Nekki B. Styles experience home with them.

For me, it’s not just about hair—it’s about legacy, community, and creating a space where people feel seen, valued, and empowered because we deserve.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that I had to dim my light or shrink myself to be accepted. I thought being quiet or playing small was safer. As I’ve grown, I’ve learned that my voice, my creativity, and my presence are gifts from God—and I don’t have to apologize for them. Now, I embrace standing fully in who I am, because that authenticity is what allows me to serve others and walk in my purpose.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be:
You are enough, just as you are. You don’t have to prove your worth—God already placed greatness inside of you. Trust the process, stay true to yourself, and everything meant for you will find its way to you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I strive for the public version of me to be the real me — but it’s also a filtered, disciplined version. I choose what I share because I’m protecting my energy, my family, and the sacred work I do. That doesn’t mean I’m pretending; it means I’m intentional.
What people see publicly is my values, my craft, and my joy — the parts I want to model.
Behind the scenes I have doubts, rest days, and private prayers, and I don’t feel the need to turn every part of that into content.
So yes: the public me is authentic, but it’s also a curated expression of the truest parts of who I am. Everything isn’t for everybody.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand deeply that healing is not just physical—it’s spiritual, emotional, and mental too.
Most people think self-care is just about the surface, but true restoration happens when you align your inner well-being with how you care for yourself outwardly. That’s why I treat hair care the way I do—it’s a space where people can release, be renewed, and reconnect with their true self.
