Iris Elliott shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Iris, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My normal day is waking up early in the morning. To take care of my daughter, along with the help of her mother. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in crime. I usually read through out the day, or do some form of studying in a field I care about. I come up with ideas. Execute some. As I leave some of the other ones for later used. I enjoy coffee for my survival. I’ve recently took a hiatus from the busy constant work life. To focus on fatherhood and connecting with the newest member of the family, but lately I’ve had a new urge to get back focused on my career as an independent artist, but in a new way and with a brand new perspective.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an artist based in East Atlanta. My medium often goes from one dimension to another. From photography, graphics, music, and video. To list a few.
I don’t see the point in limiting one self, with the resources that technology shares. I’m currently working on pushing my brand GetStonedOffART, along with an art book. That I’d like to release next year.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I’d say becoming a parent. Which I’m new to. The perspective that it brings and the experience makes it clear once again, for me. That we don’t know as much as we do and with that being said. There’s so much out there to learn and experience.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss my mother. She’s still alive just a couple thousand miles away. I wasn’t born here so traveling back to Mexico, isn’t a blessing that I currently have. The work visa that I acquired doesn’t permit traveling back to one’s homeland, and going back home was a decision my mother decided upon. I know the time will come when I see her again. It’s simply a matter of when and I’m aware there’s millions of other people in similar shoes.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie the art industry tells itself is that nothing is enough. The urge for more and more only leads to self destruction. We’re also at a point where the basis of success is popularity. So self identity is a lost and forgotten art. The industry is nothing more but a high school cafeteria. Were anyone can achieve their fifteen seconds if they decide to be like everyone else.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Of course. Everything that we get is given to us by our creator. Everything that’s taken away. Is taken away by the same source of energy. I don’t care to be idolize. I care to live and express myself regardless of the outcome.
