Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with John N. Dixon of Atlanta

We recently had the chance to connect with John N. Dixon and have shared our conversation below.

John N., a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Workout, Food Prep, Acting, and then Music! Rinse and Repeat!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is John N. Dixon and I am an actor, musician, and entertainer based out of Atlanta, Ga. You might have seen me as ‘The Ops Specialist’ in Captain America: Brave New World or taking a bullet as the character ‘Kevin’ on the hit show ‘Will Trent’. Entertaining is my career and bringing my truth to the arts is my passion.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship with my late brother Justin Dixon really helped shape how I see myself… especially as an entertainer. Since he was my older brother, he introduced me to all the coolest music, latest fashion, and greatest films. His love for art and life was so infectious, it inspired me to become an actor and musician. Since his passing in 2022, I have dedicated every all of my work to him.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
At age 37, I’ve learned that being vulnerable is one of my super powers. As I celebrate my 10th year of being free from alcohol… I realize that what amplified my pain back then was me trying to hide it as much as possible. The moment I was able to stop hiding my pain and look it in the face…. I became vulnerable and the universe answered with strength and hope.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I like to believe the public version of me is the real ME. Of course, we all want to present ourselves with our best foot forward but I really do try and be nice to every person I interact with online or on the street. That’s always been one of my super powers too… being as genuine as possible to and for myself. Plus, embracing others for them being them.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope when I’m gone, people will use my story of resiliency to help them with whatever they are going through. I have used many people around me to help give me inspiration in my toughest times and I can only hope to pay it forward.
