Check Out Schravel Brooks’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Schravel Brooks.

Hi Schravel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Vel and I go by jadedmother or jm as my producer name. I am a beginner music producer and aspiring creative south of Atlanta. I am currently a full time student and working part time. I love everything about music and could not picture my life without it. I have always picked up on little sounds etc that I hear in beats, but did not consider it as a career until towards the end of highschool. I began just watching videos and making beats on garageband on my phone in between classes. Due to financial and life hardships I was not able to get a computer for a couple of years, and had to sell it once I did. This had me very depressed and hindered my ability to use DAWS and make beats how I wanted to. Once I had a new computer, it barely handled my program at the time, and it was almost impossible to work on anything in a timely manner. I was also very depressed around this time and gradually stopped working on music aside from here and there for a few years. In 2022, I began attending Atlanta Institute Of Music And Media. While this was an amazing experience and institution, due to me being an online student at the time I did not get the more hands on experience I was searching for. Also with technology problems I had some trouble catching up with some assignments and lessons. Since receiving my certification, I have just been practicing what I did learn and doing internship searches. I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go on my production journey, but I plan to be your future favorite producer! Outside of music, I love exploring new places, especially cafes, going to concerts and taking pictures. I love just dressing up, taking pictures and finding what the city has to offer when I am in Atlanta. I am currently working on extending my reach on social media and just documenting my life, music, fashion, and future travel and endeavors. There is really so much that I want to do and goals I want to achieve both domestically and internationally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, with myself being partially to blame. For a while, I had issues with having access to a properly functioning computer and access to any DAWs. My family had some financial issues, so I ended up having to sell my first computer that I got for myself. After some time, I was able to get a new computer and install my program. This new computer could barely handle my program and functioned very poorly, having a severe impact on my availability to work. Between this and depression, for a while I slowly found myself not working on anything and then feeling bad about myself. I was stuck in this loop for quite awhile, affecting my progress in school as well. There have been other hardships along this journey, but I don’t want to make any more excuses as I am committed to fully dedicate my time to this craft moving forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My main area I want to focus on is my music and relaunching my brand. Though I am still a beginner at the moment, I have a lot to show and offer. I also love fashion, photography, and dancing. I think my unique fashion, my looks, and my wide taste of music help to compliment me as a future producer and creative. There are so many brands I would love to promote and work with, and places I want to travel to.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love just the sense of freedom there is in Atlanta. You can wear the craziest outfit and typically no one will even bat an eyes. There are also so many amazing artworks around the city and small hole in the wall shops to discover. I especially love areas such as Little 5 Points. There are also so many restaurants, bars, and cafes to discover in the city. What I like least about the city is the lack of and high pricing on parking throughout the city, and the city’s homeless epidemic.
