Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashad Harris.
Hi Rashad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I believe God put me into postion to be a barber. Fresh out of high school I was kind of not sure in the direction I wanted to go. I played basketball so at the time I wanted to just play ball, but went to college (stillman college) and studied business where I fell short of playing ball and a degree , but always had clippers to cut my peers in the dorm room. I transferred from stillman college and then went to Jacksonville state university where I majored in psychology and minor in communication but it still wasn’t it. I guess you could say i tryed, but it just wasn’t for me. Ended up coming home and began another chapter of my life trying numerous jobs that I had no love or passion for just something to get by and get a pay check, I just know it was something better for me out here than just this. So just being young and dealing with life I started hanging out more in the clubs drinking and not focused on who God called me to be got in fights, shoot out after the club and shortly after all this i had a baby on the way so I had to make a decision and do something. My older brother at the time lived in Tallahassee Florida he offered me a place to stay with him and I could enroll into barber school at the community College there, but i had a child on the way so I didn’t want to leave Atlanta so my cousin Jarvis talked and he mentioned to me a barber school on Cleveland Ave called Profile Barber institute where I enroll and graduated to become a master barber. Barbering is something that I love to do and its not just a job for me. I have now been cutting hair for 15 years and many more to come. I have now open my very own barbershop called above the bar barbershop where your presentation is everything And everything starts with your presentation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggle with owning a shop and having a family being a father and a husband you have to learn how to manage your time so nothing is neglected and still making sure you do for yourself
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a master Barber, and what sets me apart from most barbers is my heart posture, I cut with love and its not all about the money its about building relationships and experiences with my clients, the money will come. Being a leader and helping the other barbers grow in this business gives me Joy!
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a single parent house hold , we moved around a lot from Atlanta, Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas, but have a Great relationship with Mom (Linda Burt Harris) and Dad (Richard Harris). I was very adventurous but kind of quiet until i felt comfortable around you. I was always interested in sports, cars and building things. i would tear things apart just to put it back together just so i would know how it worked. I have two brothers Rapheal Harris (older Brother) and Ramond Harris (Younger Brother) i am the Middle child. I loved spending time at my cousins houses and with my Grandma (Pearl Burt) which who i called my best friend.
