Daily Inspiration: Meet Anthony Cavins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Cavins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been surrounded by creativity. Coming from a family of artists, I was encouraged to explore whatever sparked my curiosity, whether it was drawing, painting, music, or design. Growing up in Alabama, I learned early that art could be both expression and connection. After moving to Atlanta, that spark grew into a full creative practice. I work as a UX/UI designer by day, but my nights belong to painting, photography, and design projects that reflect the rhythm of Black culture and the energy of Afrofuturism. Music plays a big role in my process and often sets the tone for my portraits and ideas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Relocating to Atlanta and trying to find my footing has taken time. I had hoped to jump right into the art scene, but life has its own pace. Raising my son, managing work, and keeping everything balanced has been challenging, but also grounding. I’ve learned to trust that my time will come. Even when I’m not exactly where I thought I’d be, I’ve continued to grow and stay dedicated to my craft.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a painter, photographer, and designer, but I think my true talent lies in understanding composition and finding inspiration in almost anything. The medium is just a tool for expression. Over the years I’ve explored different themes in my work, from pop-inspired pieces and nature studies to Afrofuturism and portraiture. No matter the subject, my focus is on creating for and being inspired by my community. I believe my artistic voice is meant to give people hope and to show that there’s beauty and strength in everyday life. What connects all my work is a sense of purpose and authenticity. I want people to feel something real when they experience it.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Most of my inspiration comes from music and conversations with artists from different mediums. I’m always drawn to people who create, whether they make music, paint, design, write, or even do stand-up comedy. Hearing how they think and approach their craft helps me see creativity from new angles.
