Exploring Life & Business with Yulia Shevchenko of DomaVita Design Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yulia Shevchenko.

Hi Yulia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had an eye for design. Even back in my real estate days, interiors were what truly caught my attention — the way a space could completely transform how someone feels in it. For years, I channeled that passion through helping clients see potential in homes, and through renovating my own properties. Still, I was afraid to take the leap into design full-time.

My background is in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from Temple University, and I’ve always had a creative, entrepreneurial spirit. I tried several startups through the years, but none truly aligned with my purpose until I found interior design. After nearly nine years in real estate, I hit a point where the sales side no longer fulfilled me. By the end of 2023, I knew it was time for a change — something more creative, more personal, and more meaningful.

When my husband and I found out we were expecting our third child, it felt like life’s way of giving me a reset. While pregnant, I dove headfirst into design — studying with the New York Institute of Art and Design, taking an Environmental Psychology course at SCAD, attending color theory masterclasses with Maria Killam, and immersing myself in the Atlanta design community. All this while carrying a new baby, and what really amazes me is that I was seeing some vivid dreams about me working on interior design projects, lots of creative ideas were coming to my mind in those dreams, which I use in my actual projects nowadays! It was one of the most transformative times in my life.

A few days before my due date, I submitted my final diploma paper, hoping to finish the course before the baby arrived. Little did I know that as soon as I hit “submit,” my labor would begin. After giving birth and coming home without my newborn, who had to stay in the NICU for a few days, I felt completely drained and heartbroken. That evening, I opened my laptop to check my grade, and when I saw an “A” along with an encouraging note from my curator wishing me success and reminding me to reach my full potential, I burst into tears. Those were tears of relief and gratitude. In that moment, I knew everything was going to be okay, and that I had found my true path.

Since then, I’ve been raising both my daughter and my design business — side by side. I often say my business is my fourth child. Watching it grow has been deeply rewarding, and I’m endlessly thankful to my daughter for inspiring the biggest and most fulfilling chapter of my life.

Today, I successfully manage a reputable business and have been ranked #1 in the 2025 Interior Design Business in Suwanee, GA. I am also a wife and a mother of 3 daughters, leading them by example every day of my life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any business comes with a fair share of risk, and interior design is no exception. The road definitely hasn’t been smooth, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. In the beginning, I had no idea where to find clients, so I turned to professional service platforms that connect new designers with potential leads. It was a helpful starting point, but I knew I couldn’t rely on that forever — I needed to build a reputation and grow through word of mouth.

I tried sponsoring local events and advertising my services, but those efforts didn’t bring the results I hoped for. Another early challenge was finding honest and reliable contractors — my first experience wasn’t ideal, but it taught me important lessons about communication, expectations, and trust.

And of course, entering an established design community as a newcomer wasn’t easy either. The industry can be quite closed off to new faces, and I faced a few doors that simply wouldn’t open. But those moments only strengthened my determination to build my own path and let my work speak for itself.

We’ve been impressed with DomaVita Design Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a solopreneur, and every design that comes from my studio is personally created by me. I offer both E-design and Full-Service interior design options.

My E-design service is perfect for clients who want to take a more hands-on approach. It includes a complete design plan with 3D renderings, a scaled floor plan, and a detailed PDF presentation of their space. There are 2 revisions included in the package. Each presentation provides explanations of design choices, links to products and materials, and clear instructions for contractors, allowing clients to implement the design themselves or at their own pace with their own team.

For clients who prefer a hands-off experience, I offer Full-Service design, which includes end-to-end project management — from concept to completion.

What sets my work apart is my distinctive style and approach. Clients come to me not just for a pretty space, but for creative problem-solving and sophisticated, personalized solutions. I like to describe my designs as “unique and made for the 99% of people” — thoughtful, beautiful interiors that feel achievable yet special.

I’m most proud that my brand is personal, hands-on, and entirely my own. Every project reflects my vision, and I want clients to know that when they work with me, they’re getting designs that are carefully crafted, functional, and full of personality.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me in a few different ways, depending on what they need. They can book my E-design service if they want a flexible, DIY-friendly plan, or my Full-Service design if they’d like me to manage the project from start to finish. I also love collaborating with realtors, developers, and local vendors on creative projects.

Beyond working together directly, support comes in all kinds of meaningful ways — sharing my designs with friends, recommending my services to someone looking to refresh their space, or even just engaging with my posts online. Every bit of support helps me continue building my business and doing what I truly love.

Pricing:
