Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lanza.
Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Midway Music is a collective of artists from the West Georgia Worship community that formed in 2016. The project began as an effort to write and create music that would be a voice for the local church. From that, a group of diverse artists with many different backgrounds, styles, and voices was formed. Midway Music exists to join people of all races, cultures, and ages together in honest and passionate expressions of worship that unite us as one.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
2020 was a hard year because it was challenging to navigate how to make music while social distancing. At the beginning of the year, we had just hosted our first songwriters retreat. We had new songs and more momentum than ever before. That all came crashing down two months later, in March. It was very strange to navigate the fears of COVID-19 and how to respond to them. However in some ways, we felt more connected than ever. It challenged us to make music in a new way, and that experience made us a stronger group. We ended up releasing those songs on our album Invited, which came out in May of 2024. We are currently working on new music for future releases.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We love creating music for our community that gives local artists, songwriters, and producers a platform to showcase their gifts and talents.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
As songwriters, the Apple Voice Memo app is definitely our most-used app. You always have to be ready when inspiration hits.
