We recently had the chance to connect with Trisha Owen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Trisha, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have been an actress for 7 years working with my incredible team at Houghton Talent agency in Atlanta. I am on camera for a lot of principal roles in commercials and industrials while also booking supporting roles in movies. My friends and family have always encouraged me to pursue bigger roles than the supporting roles I usually do, because they believed I had enough talent to perform at the level of a lead role. Since it takes more confidence and preparation to be in a lead role due to the enormous amount of scripted lines to learn and scenes to perform in, I have always been a little afraid of pursuing lead roles. Recently, I was requested to audition for one of the lead roles in a Christmas movie called “Kangaroo Christmas.” The character I would be portraying was a mom of 2 children who is grieving over the loss of a loved one while trying to make Christmas as perfect as she could in the most imperfect situation. I was really drawn to this character and the love she had for her family, and the script was so heartwarming, unique, and funny! So after the audition when I was offered the role, my heart immediately filled with excitement and courage! I felt this special connection to this project that was so undeniable that it gave me the determination, courage, and confidence to do what I didn’t think I could. By taking on what I had always considered to be too great of a challenge, I have grown stronger as a person and an actress.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Trisha Owen, and I am an actress, voiceover artist, and model. I am teleprompter proficient and use this skill often when I am a host/spokesperson for corporate videos and industrials. Something unique about me is that I am a health care professional as well. I have a Biology degree from Mercer University and have also earned a doctorate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia. When I am not On Set working as an actress, I work as a pharmacist counseling patients and administering immunization shots. People are always surprised that I have science related degrees and talent in performing arts, since the two things seem so opposite. Juggling these 2 different careers keeps life fun and interesting!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I am a Christian, so my relationship with God through prayer and reading the Bible helps shape who I am and how I see myself. God’s love for me always makes me feel special and important, and my courage and strength comes from Him.
I know He has blessed me with many gifts and talents that I will use with confidence throughout my life to glorify his kingdom.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You are a person worthy of being loved unconditionally without always having to prove it or earn it.”
I grew up thinking I needed to be the perfect child in order for my parents to love me, and I was always striving to live up to the high expectations that they had for me. Love was a fragile thing. Any time I disappointed my parents, I felt like they no longer loved me or cared about me, and I would have to do something impressive to win back their love.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
FAMILY. I selflessly love my family and admittedly drop everything when any member of my family needs me to help them with anything or be there for them. I remember my daughters asked me one time what my dream job was, and I responded that it was being an actress. I knew being an actress would take a lot of commitment and it would distract me too much from being fully present for my children, so I waited to pursue my passion for acting until my children were independent and did not really need me anymore. I pursued acting later in life because my family came first, and that sacrifice was well worth it!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
My pursuit of an acting career later in life was due to my pursuit of being a mother first. I was born to be a good mother and show my children the importance of motherhood and that the close relationship you build with your children will instill in them that they will always be unconditionally loved and supported.
My parents told me since childhood to only consider pursuing a career as a health care professional, so I ended up doing as I was told and becoming a pharmacist. I have always had a passion for acting though, and now that my children are pretty independent, I am able to pursue my acting career full time and dedicate less time to my pharmacist career.
