Elijah Tutt shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Elijah , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would Definitely hire myself. I am honest, caring, thought provoking, intelligent, money conscious and loyal. I watch every dime for money is hard to make and easy to loose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Elijah Tutt.
My Businesses are Resurgence Consulting LLC and Resurgence Realty Group of Atlanta, LTD.
Resurgence Consulting LLC and Resurgence Realty Group of Atlanta, LTD are both Minority owned firms that services everyone.
Resurgence Consulting LLC, is a consulting firm that specializes in logistics planing, business consulting, land development and commercial development, land rezoning and lobbying.
Resurgence Realty Group of Atlanta, LTD is a Real Estate Brokerage firm specializing in new construction sales, resale, commercial and residential sales and rentals.
What makes both of my firms unique is that we specialize and cater to each clients needs. “We are Small Enough to Know you and Large Enough to Grow you.” That is the companies motto and slogan and I am Damned Sure that I and each person within my company keeps that at the forefront of our heads each second of the day.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was three years old and I knew that I loved church. Well, I remember my mom and dad saying we weren’t going to church that Sunday and I grabbed my robe and jumped on their bed and started preaching.

The second time that I remember was in school. I believe i was in elementary school and I and teacher understood me and my dreams in life and I remember her isolating me from the crowed that I thought i wanted to be friends with.

Then, I went to work for the City of Atlanta. I will not name any names but, I had two bosses whom are family friends and mentors whom use to tell me “Stop hanging with no good no bodies, you are what you associate with and your association isn’t part of nor will ever be part of those that aren’t going places. Get over yourself and learn yourself and soon you’ll be on your way because you’re TOP NOTCh.”

Lastly, friends of the family who’s grandfather back in the day whom is long passed Named Rev. Dr. William Holmes Borders of Wheat Street Baptist Church in Atlanta,GA made a recording entitled. ” I am somebody.” Now, go listen to that and tell me if that doesn’t stir the souls and consciousness of the African American man.

In each of those instances, I felt loved and powerful for knowing and being a black man.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Surely there was a time I wanted to give up However, I was taught a poem as a young man that made me never give up and it ended with this saying ” But sooner or later the man whom wins is the man that thinks he can.”
I can’t give up or give in but, I must win.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Being a realtor is easy. That is the biggest damn lie there is to know.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I just love this question.
I hope that people say that I was a good and decent man, I don’t care if they liked me because not everyone will be liked but they will and must know and say that I was respected. I hope that people tell the story of how a Black man made an earnest and honest living. How a dared to beat the odds and how I loved and admired my family, my friends, my village, my community and the rich legacy of the African American / Black community abroad but primarily in Atlanta. I hope that the houses and communities I’ve built and lives I’ve touched and scholarships I’ve given in my name reach far beyond jut myself. I hope that in each and everything I do that it writes the story of my legacy and it is my home that my legacy influences others to Do, Be, Give and Be Unapologetic about it.
