Today we’d like to introduce you to ZENA DALY.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been immersed in music since I was a child — it’s truly been the rhythm of my life. I started singing lead in my school choir at just seven years old, and by adolescence I was already winning academic and talent-related awards that encouraged me to keep developing both my artistry and discipline. By the age of eleven, I was writing and producing my own music, learning how to bring my ideas to life from start to finish.
I’m classically trained and earned my degree in Music Business from Alabama State University, which gave me not only the creative foundation but also the professional understanding of how to navigate the industry. In 2015, I started my own band, and we’ve been performing live ever since — it’s through those performances that I’ve really connected with audiences all over the world.
Over the years, my music has charted and even been considered for a Grammy. I’ve toured internationally and performed on major televised stages, including the Latin Billboard Music Awards. Every experience — from the classroom to the stage — has shaped me into the artist I am today: one who creates from the heart, performs with intention, and uses music as a bridge to uplift and connect people across cultures.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I come from a proud Afro-Latina background with roots in Honduras, part of the Caribbean, and growing up as a dark-skinned Black girl from Miami came with its challenges. I had to fight to be seen and valued in spaces that weren’t always welcoming to someone like me. I was the first in my family to build a career purely from my passion, so there was no guidebook. Everything I learned came from experience, faith, and determination.
There were times I had nothing. I’ve been homeless and had to find ways to survive while still believing in my purpose. I worked, performed, and pushed forward through every obstacle because I knew music was my calling.
As I grew into my womanhood, I also had to navigate how my body changed. I was always skinny growing up, but in adulthood, I became curvier. In an industry that often celebrates one type of body, I’ve seen how people can overlook talent because it doesn’t come in the package they expect. Learning to embrace my body and still stand confidently in who I am became part of my healing and my message.
All of these experiences shaped me into a stronger artist and woman. They taught me to define beauty, success, and power on my own terms and to use my platform to represent women who refuse to shrink themselves to fit anyone’s idea of worth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a vocalist, songwriter, and performer with a deep love for creating music that moves people on an emotional and spiritual level. I’m classically trained, but over time I developed a sound that’s completely my own, which I call R&BDM. It’s a fusion of R&B, EDM, Caribbean, and pop influences that come together to create something soulful, global, and high-energy.
I started writing and producing my own music when I was just a kid, and that early foundation taught me how to express emotion and tell stories through sound. I’ve become known for my live performances and the way my voice connects with people in real time. There’s a certain energy I tap into on stage that allows me to create a shared experience with the audience, one that feels both intimate and electric.
What truly sets me apart is my authenticity and the cultural blend that lives in my artistry. My Afro-Latina Caribbean roots run deep, and they shape the rhythm, the emotion, and the message in everything I do. I bring both technical skill and raw soul to my work, and I think people can feel that balance when they hear me sing.
I’m proud of the milestones I’ve reached—starting my own band in 2015, touring internationally, charting with my music, and being considered for a Grammy—but I’m even more proud that I’ve stayed grounded in purpose. My mission has always been to create music that heals, uplifts, and reminds people of their own power.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to trust your voice and protect your vision. When you’re new, everyone has an opinion about who you should be or what will “work,” but the truth is no one can see what’s inside of you the way you can. Stay rooted in that.
I wish I knew earlier that it’s okay to grow in private, to take your time learning, failing, and evolving without comparing your path to anyone else’s. Consistency and authenticity matter more than perfection. Every experience, even the hard ones, is shaping your artistry and your purpose.
Also, take care of your energy. This industry can be beautiful but also draining if you don’t set boundaries. Surround yourself with people who see your light and remind you of it when you forget. And remember, you don’t have to chase what’s meant for you—your gift will make room for you when you keep showing up with intention and truth.
