Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean McPhillip.
Hi Sean, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in New York (Flatbush, Brooklyn) to an immigrant father from Trinidad and an American mother from South Carolina. When I was born, my parents were both high school dropouts. They later went on to obtain their GEDs. I received an academic scholarship from New York University, where I studied computer science.
After graduating from New York University, I pursued a career in the IT field. During my IT career, I co-founded and ran a successful promotions company. Despite that success, I decided to pursue a lifelong dream of attending law school.
While attending law school, I was a board member of the Georgia State Law Review. I also received multiple CALI Awards as well as the Excellence in Advocacy Award.
After graduating from law school, I worked several years for an AMLaw 100 firm. There, as a registered patent attorney, my practice involved numerous aspects of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
In 2020, I founded the McPhillip Firm to cater to the needs of my community. There, I expanded my practice to include personal injury and criminal defense. In my personal injury practice, I work closely with clients who suffered dog bites and those involved in motor vehicle accidents, trucking wrecks, slip and falls, and wrongful death cases.
In just three years, I built the McPhillip Firm into a multi-million-dollar practice. To date, I’ve recovered millions of dollars for his clients.
In my criminal defense practice, I’ve successfully defended clients against various crimes, including, DUIs, drug possession, family violence charges, theft, and traffic offenses including fleeing and eluding, obstruction, and reckless driving.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is ever smooth. We have plans for how things should go, but I’ve learned to adjust along the way. Constantly learning and applying new methods are key. There was a time when my promotions company took a downturn and there was also a time when that AMLaw100 law firm wanted to demote me from an associate to a staff attorney. For me, knowing who I am and going for it works best. I will never be deterred by other’s opinions.
