Danielle Nekole on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Danielle Nekole and have shared our conversation below.

Danielle, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would absolutely hire myself. I am dependable and can be trusted to follow through on commitments, which means others can count on me to get the job done. I’m also creative and bring fresh ideas to the table, often finding unique solutions to challenges. While I don’t consider myself a perfectionist, I do believe in perfecting things in their own authentic and beautiful way, which allows me to deliver high-quality results without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Danielle Nekole, a beauty, lifestyle, and fashion creator who is passionate about inspiring people to embrace their creativity and live boldly. My brand blends artistry, authenticity, and empowerment—I started with creative makeup looks and have expanded into fashion, lifestyle, and digital content that speaks to curvy women and anyone looking for confidence and self-expression. What makes my brand unique is the way I combine bold artistry with relatable storytelling, showing that beauty is more than just a look—it’s an experience. Right now, I’m especially excited about my new Glam Me Up e-book, which is designed to make makeup education approachable, fun, and transformative for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
From a young age, I knew I was different in the way I saw and created things. Creativity is in my DNA. My mom had a gift for styling hair and designing clothes, while my dad built custom barbecue barrel grills. I inherited both sides of their artistry, and it naturally became part of who I am.

As a child, I didn’t really let the world define me, but as I grew older, I learned to embrace my individuality even more. I stopped trying to fit into what others thought I should be and leaned into my own self-expression, especially through fashion. In 2019, after experiencing a breakup, I found a new outlet in makeup artistry. That moment pushed me to explore bold, expressive looks, and it unlocked a deeper part of my creativity that has shaped the person I am today.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there were moments when I almost gave up. Life has thrown me challenges that made me question my path and whether my dreams were worth pursuing. But in those moments, I reminded myself of my purpose—to inspire, create, and show others that life is always worth living. Instead of quitting, I turned pain into creativity, whether through my makeup artistry, storytelling, or content creation. Those challenges became fuel for me to keep going, and today I see them as proof that even when giving up feels easier, pushing forward creates something far more powerful.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Absolutely. I told my supporters from the very beginning that if I was going to do this, I was going to be myself, so what you see is what you get. The public version of me is the real me. I don’t believe in putting on a mask or pretending to be someone else just to fit an image. My creativity, my artistry, my humor, and even my struggles are all a part of who I am, and that’s what I choose to share. The only difference is that the private version of me carries the quiet moments that fuel the public one. But make no mistake, both are fully authentic, and I refuse to show up as anything less than myself.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, my role, and my possessions, what would remain is the essence of who I am: my character, my creativity, and my courage. Those are things no title or material possession could ever define or take away. I would still carry the resilience that has pushed me through challenges, the authenticity that allows me to show up fully as myself, and the ability to inspire others with the gifts God has given me. My legacy would not be in what I owned or the roles I held, but in the impact of my spirit, my artistry, and the way I encouraged others to see that life is always worth living.
