Meet Yasmeen Sa’eedah of Atlanta, Ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmeen Sa’eedah.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It was during the ice cold “Blizzard of ‘96” when I got my first fix……in fashion. I developed my passion for crafting looks for every occasion at a very early age. You see, back in the nineteen hundred and nineties growing up in Southeast, DC, I literally had to walk fourteen blocks just to go shop on Minnesota Ave. Lol! But I knew how to make it work. I would pair my Susan’s Fashion Trench with my Shoe City Timbs. And I can’t forget about the good old Discount Mart. I mean I graduated to Gap and Armani Change eventually. But fifteen year old me, I felt like an icon, laying down the blueprint for the epitome of style while I sewed a perfect ninety degree triangle on the lower leg of my bell bottoms. And if you ask me, I brought back skinny jeans! Me, Yasmeen Sa’eedah. Brick by brick. Stitch by stitch. Girls were paying me twenty dollars a pop to alter their jeans the same. Then here go Parasucos. Smh! I went on and got a pair in every color tho. I wish they had influencers back then.
Soon after, my dreams for Fashion Design demised and I needed more shopping money so, I started working at CVS Pharmacy. I would still dabble a little in sewing here and there. A few years later, I went on to work for Kaiser Permanente in the Pharmacy division and quickly realized how much I love helping people. I almost went to study medicine, but then I decided to take another approach to doing so and became a Massage Therapist. And listen, college is expensive and since I’m being truthful, I would rather help my people with natural remedies instead of pushing chemicals, but that’s a whole separate interview.
I practiced massage therapy for over fifteen years, laying my healing hands on some of the top names in the industry. I reached my peak. I was at the height of my career, living life in luxury, but something was still missing in me. I needed another hit.
Was it poetically? Was I supposed to sing or rap? Cap! Cause I’m always on my own rhythm. So, what is it? A voice in the back of my mind had been telling me for a long time to get a sewing machine. It was 2018 when I finally listened. And I haven’t stopped sewing since. I’m so grateful to my parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunties who have been so supportive of my journey. I love my family! And to my friends til the end who represent my brand just as much as I do, oh how I love you!
I have come to the understanding that the life tests, though difficult, are lessons, blessings and testimonies. I am tied like matrimony to my talents. I have learned to trust, accept and learn from the Divine within. There are infinite instances where I listened to my intuition, stayed calm and patient, followed my heart and everything worked out better than I ever thought. God is my driving force. He literally guides me to my destiny. When something is for me, He rewards me, right at the perfect time. I achieve a natural high when I use my sewing machine for therapy. I finally let go of my fears and worries and let my God given gifts thrive.
Nowadays, I have the pleasure to design on a daily. I’ve been hosting monthly pop-up shops at Buttersweet Bakery(next one 12/20/25) with Q of OTB Fashions(all Black Owned) and continue to create custom fashions, upcycled fashion and perform perfect alterations for my clients. “Married to Fashion” TV show with Crystal from Nya Nya Couture, Natasha Skinner, Carla Holmes and myself is coming soon! My sewing classes will return in the Spring 2026. I’m also completing a poetry book and will be the featured Spoken Word Artist at the “Zen and Kushmas” Concert starring my westie bestie, Lizzy Jeff, the Rap Priestess. Her performance pieces will be designed by me as well as mine. I’m ending this year pretty amazing in spite of all the strife. I’m excited to see how phenomenal 2026 will be 🙌🏽✨

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the words of the late, great Langston Hughes, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” But God! On a daily, I battle endometriosis, menopause, arthritis, carpal tunnel, depression, ptsd, and anxiety just to name a few. And I’ve been disappointed a time or two, but I’m so thankful for my solid foundation. My unwavering faith keeps me grounded and sane. I try my best not to complain. In the midst of all the heartache and pain and the world’s wicked ways, I pray. I meditate. And I force myself to keep a positive mind all day. It could be worse, but it’s going to be greater later!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Fashion Designer, a Stylist, a Courturier, a Fabric Architect if you will. I specialize in custom clothing for women and sometimes make garments for men, children and pets. I am known for my kimonos with matching scarves, rooted from my Islamic religion. I am most proud of my perseverance, dedication and growth. What sets me apart from others is my unique style that infuses African culture with West Indian traditions along with some Middle Eastern ceremonial rituals all mystically pulled together to create divine designs. Also, my ability to create a whole look without a pattern, sometimes in a matter of a couple hours. And I never make two garments the same. Even if I use the same fabric and thread, atleast one detail is different.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
One of my best qualities is my empathetic care and concern. I treat everyone like a loved one. And I always remember that my gift is God-given. It is my duty and my desire to provide top tier service and fashion to the nations of the world.
