Hidden Gems: Meet Panchajanya Paul of Atlanta Evening Psychiatry / Holistic Family Psychiatry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Panchajanya Paul.

Hi Panchajanya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a child and adult psychiatrist, currently practicing in the city of Atlanta. I do both private practice consultations and hospital affiliations.
I was born in India, and did my medical schooling in India. Then I came to the USA in 2007 and did my training in psychiatry from University of Toledo. After that, I moved to Atlanta in 2012 and completed my fellowship in child psychiatry in 2014.
Since then, I have been practicing in Atlanta, Georgia, and have worked in different facilities, treating thousands of patients with their mental health needs.
I was made a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2016 for my work in Psychiatry.

I have also authored two books related to mental health, Sleep Coaching and Stress Rescue, available on Amazon.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have my share of struggles, but those are also the times when I learn the most and grow as a person.
When I first came to the USA in 2006, I experienced culture shock. There are differences in lifestyle, food habits, and social norms. It took me some time to adapt, and I kept an open mind to embrace all the changes which were positive.
Then there are issues with the language and the nuances which also took me some time to get.
Finally, the biggest challenge was to understand the thinking of the local common people who form my patient base. In the profession of psychiatry, understanding the desire, motivation, frustration, and emotions is paramount. I had to learn to understand the person first, before I could understand their mental illness and guide them towards recovery.

As you know, we’re big fans of Atlanta Evening Psychiatry / Holistic Family Psychiatry. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I offer psychiatric care, including medication management and psychotherapy. I have a team of 3 other nurse practitioners who help me share the patient case load. I have my office manager, Saginika Mukherjee, looking after the day-to-day operations, including marketing and patient outreach.
What sets us apart from other psychiatry practices is the personalized care that we provide, along with the flexible time slots.
We offer evening and weekend appointments. Many of my clients are children. It is hard for the parents to take time off work and take the children out of school for the day to attend appointments. That is why we run evening appointments 4 days a week from 7 pm to accommodate those who cannot make it during the day. In addition, bisy professions looking for flexibility find it super easy to reach us and get help.

In addition to psychiatry and medicine, I also offer guidance on nutrition, sleep, exercise, and lifestyle changes that can help people to stay mentally resilient and physically strong.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I grew up in India in a small city. It was a slow-paced life. Everything was local and walkable. I miss the simplicity of childhood, the unrushed day without any electronic distractions. One of my favorite memories is when I saw the Sea for the first time with my parents at the age of 7 years old. It was in Puri, a beach city in the state of Orissa, India. I have never seen such a big water body. The first sight of the ocean, so vast, huge, unending, blue water in unforgettable.
