Inspiring Conversations with Lauren Phillips of Phillips Insurance Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Phillips.

Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I never dreamed of working in insurance. In fact, my insurance agent had asked me many times to get my license and come work with her, but it was never something I had a desire to do. To be honest, it seemed boring.

Around September or October of 2019, I was approached by another acquaintance about getting my life insurance license. After some persistent encouragement, I agreed to take the course and exam, fully expecting not to pass and assuming that would be the end of it.

To my surprise, I passed the exam on my first try and became licensed in life and health insurance. However, things did not work out with the company my acquaintance was affiliated with, and once again, I thought that was the end of my insurance journey.

In December of 2019, I accepted a position with a property and casualty agency in Marietta, Georgia, as an Account Manager and Office Manager. I officially started in January of 2020, and shortly after, COVID sent us home. During that time, I found myself with a lot of extra time due to no longer having a daily commute and a growing concern about job security. As the newest employee, I worried I might be the first to be let go if cuts were made.

So, outside of work, I began learning more about health insurance and how to offer it independently. What started as a precaution slowly turned into a business. In October of 2021, I officially formed Phillips Insurance Solutions, LLC.

As my agency grew, I quickly realized there was a massive lack of education around health insurance. That realization shaped everything I built. Even today, my main focus is not selling insurance. It is educating consumers so they can make the most informed decisions about their health coverage.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I think the biggest struggle is the fraud we deal with. In 2024 there was huge issue with fraudulent ads on social media and text messages offering consumers free health insurance and $6,400 a month (there were many versions of these with varying amounts). I had clients that fell for this and were moved to plans that did not allow them to get the care they needed, which caused another set of issues. Consumers were enrolled in plans without their knowledge and only found out at tax time when they owed back the subsidies that were paid on their behalf. I personally had clients that fell victim to their Agent of Record and plans being changed without their consent. It was a daily battle to protect consumers.
Another big struggle we have face is the expiration of the enhanced subsidies that were put in place during covid. Those expired on 12/31/25, in addition to that carriers raised rates (some carriers had large rate increases). This Open Enrollment was tough to navigate with that, many people could no longer afford the coverage they needed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Phillips Insurance Solutions?
My agency focuses on health insurance for consumers under 65, Medicare, and Social Security planning.

One thing that truly sets me apart is the advocacy I do, not just for my clients, but for consumers in general. In 2024, I spoke out and pushed back against fraud in the industry. Many people told me to leave it alone and focus on writing more business, but that was never an option for me. I cannot stand by and watch people be taken advantage of, and I will continue to fight for what is right.

I am most proud of the integrity behind Phillips Insurance Solutions. Every recommendation is made with the client’s best interest in mind, even when it would be easier to do otherwise.

I want readers to know that when you choose Phillips Insurance Solutions for your health insurance or Social Security planning needs, you are not just getting a policy. You are getting someone who is here for you, who will answer your questions, and who will make sure you fully understand your options so you can make the most informed decisions about these important topics.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is integrity and education. Insurance and benefits impact people’s health, finances, and futures, yet most consumers are forced to make decisions without truly understanding their options. That gap matters to me deeply.

I care about doing what is right, even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. Whether that means spending extra time educating a client, advocating on someone’s behalf, or speaking out against practices that harm consumers, I believe trust is built through actions, not words.

At the end of the day, what matters most to me is knowing that the people who trust me with these important decisions feel informed, supported, and protected. If my work helps someone feel less overwhelmed and more confident about their choices, then I know I am doing what I am meant to do.
