Today we’d like to introduce you to Denay Shook.

Hi Denay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Everything started for me after the birth of my first child. I wanted to document our life with her authentically and have everything just be well documented. From there my desire to just be home during the early years of their life really inspired me to take my passion to the next level and start a business. I’d spend hours practicing and watching YouTube videos and learning everything I could about the true art of photography. After the birth of my 4th child I fell in love with the look of film and now that’s what inspires me most in my work as I photograph families

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not the smoothest road, but not the bumpiest either. Whenever you are creating something and remaining truly authentic to the art you want to put out you are going to have push back at

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a maternity, family and newborn photographer that specializes in documentary styles authentic sessions. What sets me apart is that I create from the heart with the wishes of my client in mind for every session. I also create and design my own sets

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was super shy and hated attention. I still don’t like attention, but I do open up when my camera is in my hand. I could talk for hours about this passion of mine. Photography makes me feel invincible. It’s an incredible feeling
