Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Carter.
Hi Kat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A lifetime of obesity struggles and a background in media drew me to help Kim Carlos get the PlusSidez Podcast off the ground. We combined our skills of marketing and media to highlight the transformative change that is happening right now in medicine, healthcare, and obesity medicine. We highlight community members that are experiencing life changes with GLP1 therapies, and interview medical professionals such as doctors, therapists, and experts to back up the community stories with science, facts, and data.
It’s been a labor of love, and we enjoy getting loud and changing things in the perception and treatment of obesity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The misconception of obesity as a personal issue or a moral failing by the greater public is the first major challenge and obstacle that we have faced since the beginning of the podcast. However, we have found such an incredible community of professionals and supporters that live the movement of getting loud about changing the perceptions of the issue appropriately: obesity is a chronic disease that deserves medical treatment and intervention.
Of course we struggle with the usual as well, families, our 9-5s, basically our crazy lives and the podcast!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My “corner” of the podcast is that I love to bake, cook, and fitness. I loved fitness before the therapy, and before the podcast. I try to share with the world that fit has no size first, and that just because we live in larger bodies, it doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy a great sweat. The common misconception for many is that taking the therapy is an easier route to a goal. I am happiest showing my community that we’re not new to fitness, we’re true to fitness. I love showing my audience ways to introduce movement and bake and cook in ways that help us on our journey.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m pretty open with many things. If you know me, you know I’m a die hard Prince fan, and I relate a lot of things to Prince lyrics. Otherwise, I’m pretty open about almost anything. But if you don’t listen to the podcast, you won’t know!
