Community Highlights: Meet Kelly McCrary of Maverick Motorcycle Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly McCrary.

Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m an educator by profession, and I have been riding motorcycles for almost 2 decades.
Within the last 10 yrs, I periodically started riding to the high school where I work. Students would ask me about riding, noting how fun or cool it looked which I agreed. I would also throw in that what made riding fun was being safe and skilled. It was through those conversations with teenagers that I decided that I wanted to expand my teaching to outside the classroom and start helping people learn to ride. I went through the state’s training program which was truly a rigorous process. Nevertheless, I made it through and became a certified coach through the state of Georgia and the National Motorcycle Safety Foundation. I worked under another company for almost three years before opening Maverick Motorcycle Academy. I always knew that I wanted to open my own business around something I loved to do, and this aligned perfectly. The journey hasn’t been perfect or easy, but I made it through God’s grace, and with the help and support of my tribe.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has not been an easy journey. The hardest parts were having enough money to fund this startup, finding an affordable location that was big and flat enough to get approved by the state and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and lastly, getting approved by zoning.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Maverick Motorcycle Academy is a privately owned motorcycle training school authorized by the State of Georgia to teach courses offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. At the conclusion of the basic course, students take a skills and written test in hopes of earning their 90 day waiver from the state. There are other advanced riding classes that we plan to offer in the future so riders can continue to build their skills.

What sets us apart from others is our commitment to providing a quality customer experience. We take pride in listening to students and asking questions that prompt students to evaluate themselves. We want students to be safe, skilled, and to have fun. Our academy students are an extended family, and we let them know that they can reach out at anytime.

Brand wise, we’re most proud of our core values: safety, integrity, professionalism, awareness, and relationships.

We want our readers to know that Maverick Motorcycle Academy is dedicated to fostering lifelong relationships with its customers through exceptional learning experiences. We prioritize safety and encourage skill development to offset risk.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We stay connected to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s coach’s forum and other motorcycle community groups and events.
