Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel “Tony” Bryan.
Hi Nathaniel “Tony”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
First, let me say that I’m honored to have the opportunity to share my story on your platform. My life started in downtown Charleston, SC, and we didn’t have much, but what we didn’t have in material things, we made up for it with love. I didn’t have my father in the home, but I hope I don’t sound bad, but I didn’t miss out on anything because my mother, granny (RIP), and my uncles raised me pretty well, if I say so myself. I think that I had a pretty normal childhood. As I said previously, we didn’t have a lot of money, but I didn’t notice because my mom and granny made our home feel like we had millions of dollars in the bank, plus everyone else around me was living the same, so it was the norm to help each other to get by and survive.
I began playing organized basketball my sophomore year of high school, and I was horrible. The only thing I could do was dunk, and that’s it, but I knew this was something I wanted to do, so I practiced and practiced because I knew that sports would get me out of my neighborhood and my city. I guess that’s where my work ethic started to show because I knew I had a greater purpose.
So fast forward. I received a four-year basketball scholarship to Georgia Southwestern State University. I graduated with a degree in Marketing. I found a job working for the state of Georgia for 10+ years. While training kids in the makeshift weight room at work, I started training two employees there, and I helped them lose 20+ pounds each. One of my coworkers said, “You should get certified because you are good at what you do.” I didn’t pay it any mind and just kept on helping the kids at work to lift weights properly and efficiently. What my former coworker told me wouldn’t leave my mind, so I listened, and I finally got certified to become a personal trainer. I didn’t have many clients at first, but I enjoyed helping them to get in better shape mentally and physically.
I had gotten burnt out from working at that one job because it just wasn’t fun anymore, and I just needed a change. So I called one of my best friends Robb Ritch to see if he had any connections because he is the Mayor of the city lol so he said that he would check and as I knew he would…he got the information I needed to push through with me moving and starting my new career and something that would change my life. To be fully transparent, everything that has happened to me since I moved 6 years ago has been nothing but God. I have accomplished more in 6 years than I have in my ENTIRE life, and great things are still happening, so I give ALL praise to God.
I currently work at Onelife Fitness in Canton, Ga and I absolutely love what I do. To be able to help people transform how their bodies look, also transforming how they may look at themselves or how they may feel about themselves, is amazing, and I’m amazed that people trust me enough to spend their hard-earned money to train with me, to stay with me even though I’m not the easiest of trainers…I thank God daily for the opportunities and the people he has blessed me with to be able to help and serve them the very best that I can. I believe that what I’m doing is what God put me on this earth to do. To help and be of service to the people. My goal is to expand my brand, help as many people as I can, all while getting better at my craft and teaching others who may come after me in this fitness space.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth hell no, but that’s life right? If it comes easy what do you learn? Struggles make you who you are because it’ll test you to see what you’re made of. Struggles teach you lessons on how and what needs to be done to come out on the other side stronger, smarter, and more grateful. Some struggles along my journey have been opportunities or the lack thereof, support, confidence in myself, the lack of knowledge when it comes to business, sales, and what to say and what not to say to people. It’s all been a learning process, which I’m STILL learning to this day. I’m grateful for the struggles.
As great of a job as I have each day still brings frustrations when it comes to helping clients, the business behind helping clients, helping myself, and knowing my worth…all of that brings obstacles, but I trust God, so I know everything will be amazing. Some challenges as a trainer are always learning how to train clients to perform at their 100% best because not every client responds to just one thing, so I have to continue to learn my tribe so I can continue to have great RESULTS with every one of my clients.
As a personal trainer, another obstacle/challenge is losing clients due to money, moving out of town, or just not being a good fit. It still is not the best feeling to experience because I feel like when a person hires me, my mission is to give them exactly what they pay me for, and that is a positive body transformation, and when the mission isn’t completed, I sometimes feel like I didnt do enough so I have to go back to the drawing board and ask myself “What could I have done better?” but I guess that is what makes me who I am because I care and want my folks to win.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a personal trainer, but more than that, I work with real people living real lives…moms balancing kids and careers, professionals working long hours, and even individuals in high-pressure environments who all want to feel better in their bodies again.
A lot of the people I train come in feeling stuck. They’ve tried quick fixes, inconsistent routines, or just haven’t had time to prioritize themselves. My role is to simplify that for them. I help them lose weight, build muscle, and get stronger, but in a way that actually fits in their lifestyle, so it becomes something they can sustain, not something they burn out from.
What I’m known for is pushing people past what they think their limits are, while still meeting them with understanding. I don’t believe in easy workouts, but I do believe in smart, effective training that builds both physical and mental strength.
What I’m most proud of is seeing people change how they see themselves. It’s not just about the weight loss or the muscle they gain…it’s the confidence they build, the discipline they develop, and the realization that they are capable of more than they thought. That transformation carries into every part of their life, and that’s what makes this work rewarding for me.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me is family, love, peace, and my health because those are the things that truly ground me and give my life meaning. Everything I do starts there. These things are my anchor. No matter how busy life gets or how much I’m pouring into others, I know that if I stay rooted in those values, I’ll always move with purpose and clarity.
From that foundation, I’ve made it my mission to become the best trainer I can be, not for recognition, but for impact. I’ve seen firsthand how fitness can change more than just a body…it can rebuild confidence, restore discipline, and completely shift the way someone shows up in their life. That’s what drives me every day. I’m not just training people to look better, I’m helping them become stronger mentally, physically, and emotionally.
If I can use my passion and knowledge to help as many people as possible transform their lives, then I’m in perfect alignment with what matters to me.
