Life & Work with Zee Reneé of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zee Reneé.

zee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My writing started when I was 13 in a black and white composition book before going to Wattpad where I had over a million reads on my book “Benediction”. In 2023, I independently published my first book All In, a number one bestselling urban fiction/urban romance book. Since then, I have published nine books with more to come Lord’s Willing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. There are ups and downs within anything you do in life. One of the bestest struggles is self doubt and the battle of comparison. Also the challenge of facing writing slumps and trying to stay in a lane that is tough and dominated by popularity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I birth delusion into reality. What that means is I write black characters that who look like, speak like me, go through real things like me, and do things that I would probably go to jail for lol. That is the beauty of fiction. I am known for staying true to myself and helping others be seen through the lenses of words. I tell my story and others stories to help the next person.

What I am most proud of right now is that my Grannie got to be able to see me publish one of my books before she went home to be with the Lord.

What sets me apart is that I am me. zee reneé. I do not try to be like anyone else. When I do, it shows, through my work. I do what I want all while being myself without a care in the world fr. Which is why when my first book ended up being 700 pages, I didn’t care nothing about people talking about it online. I came into the industry ready to dominate, and by the grace of God, I did just that and with His favor, I am going to continue to do so.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I learn everyday, but again, I will say staying true to myself and my craft. We all were given gifts and while we may be doing the same thing, we are not the same. So using my gifts and this season to get what I need out of it.
