Today we’d like to introduce you to Benton Thompson III.
Hi Benton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Actually, my journey began when I was an infant. There was a devastating event that occurred which forever changed the landscape of my family and impacted my life’s trajectory. At the time of my birth, I had seven older siblings: four sisters and three brothers. When I was but six weeks old a deadly flood swept through my neighborhood and took the lives of two of my sisters Debra and Carol, who were six and three years old. Several other families lost their loved ones that day also. My father and older brother were also swept up in the flooded waters, but thankfully, they survived. I wondered why and how the youngest, smallest and newest member of our family, me, survived. I wondered what my purpose was for being kept alive. This led me to a path of discovery that I am still on today. Since then, I have written many books and had various talks about finding peace in your purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth, but that is by Divine design. During the detours is when you find new discoveries; you meet new people and you learn new things. The bumps and bruises build character and give you those life experiences that allow you to speak from a place of knowledge and not from just speculation or theory. I would not trade anything for my journey; it has made me who I am today. Every loss eventually produced gain in my character. You never know what will shape you. We often learn more from our numerous attempts than we do from an instant success. The key is to have repeatable consistency. We can only do that if we understand what it took to make it happen. Mistakes are evidence that you are trying, and scars are proof you were victorious.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My mission and purpose are to help those who are seeking self-improvement. One of all our basic needs as humans is to find our connectedness, a place where we belong, our community. I have established a safe space for those of us who are seeking an understanding and application of their spiritual self. It is my core belief that our spiritualty is the foundation for everything that we do. My desire is to help each person I encounter connect with their inner self. My target audience is SEEKERS, those who want to understand spirituality, not religion. I offer practical relatable steps to finding your inner self. I enjoy helping others find satisfaction in understanding things that have been previously made convoluted as it pertains to faith.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The most important lesson that I have learned is, there is a plan and a purpose for everything that happens. The understanding of those things might not always be made readily apparent, but as we continue to trust the process, we will gain that understanding. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle, sometimes it takes a while to see where things complete the picture but stay patient and vigilant and it will eventually come together. Also be flexible, because things might not be according to your concepts of success or failure. Let’s keep going until the end.
