Hidden Gems: Meet Divine Burgess of Flan Hermanos, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Divine Burgess.

Hi Divine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I originally started this business in 2021 with my brother thus the name Flan Hermanos. After putting the business on hold for years I met the love of my life Tzoalli and we decided to revamp the business together. Almost all flan currently on the market is subpar or just inedible, that’s where Flan Hermanos comes in. We create truly authentic flan and expanded to the 18 flavor catalog we have today, flavors you won’t find anywhere else. We provide the people of Atlanta with quality flan at the farmers markets we attend and to the restaurants we currently supply.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a journey of ups and downs. There was a lot we had to learn on our own when we first started out. But with each failure we learned something that helped us to improve every time. One of the biggest struggles when you start off is finding out what markets work for you and where your clientele is.

We’ve been impressed with Flan Hermanos, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Flan Hermanos is a business that provides only the highest quality flan. Our slogan ” Classic and Beyond” is what we are all about. We make the best classic flan around but we didn’t stop there, we pushed the flavor envelope and have expanded to 18 flavors with more on the way. We started this business to get quality flan back on the market. Almost all flan currently available in retail is extremely low quality. They are full of fillers such as cornstarch gelatin and corn syrup. With Flan Hermanos you only get quality, and we want people to try what flan is supposed to taste like. Our most popular product is always our classic vanilla flan! It’s everyone’s favorite. In order to cater to those with allergies or specific dietary needs we were also able to develop our vegan flan. You can get any of our 18 flavors in a vegan version upon request. It took us months to come up with the recipe but we are confident that we got it as close to the original as possible. We are proud to say that you can find us at farmers markets like The Druid Hills Farmers Market and you can also get our flans online at www.FlanHermanos.com. There you can get any flavor flan you want in 3 different sizes. We are also know to do company events, like our time supplying IHG with flan for there Hispanic heritage month event. We also do wholesale to food trucks and restaurants. We currently supply to 2 restaurants and have been expanding in that market as well.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Never over pay for a market or take there word on attendance!!! We learned this the hard way when our debut market was a complete flop. The market had promised that 40,000 people would attend and we accounted for 1% sales on that number. We spent 11 hours at the commercial kitchen producing 400 flans, and at the end of the 10hr market on a 100 degree summer day, we only sold 7!! This was a huge hit and taught us a valuable lesson. Do your research on the market you plan to attend.
