Hidden Gems: Meet Asmaa Dabbagh of Naya Soaps LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asmaa Dabbagh.

Hi Asmaa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My daughter, Naya, got a soap making kit for her birthday in 2022. She loved making soaps and started gifting soaps to family and friends. We all encouraged her to start selling them. Last year, I helped Naya getting the business licensed. Now, we both work on the business. Naya is currently in Grade 9.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t a smooth road at all. Naya and I had to learn proper techniques of making soaps ourselves. We changed our ingredients to make the soaps all natural. Naya is still in school so balancing the business with her schooling was challenging. Naya is very hard worker and smart girl so now she knows how to prioritize things. The biggest struggle is starting the business itself since I don’t know anything about business and I learned everything myself and I’m still learning!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We sell all natural handmade soaps that are scented using pure essential oils. There are no chemicals or additives in our soaps. We are a mother daughter duo business. We ship all over the United States.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck didn’t play a role in my life or business, but having a supportive husband has helped a lot. So in a sense, I had good luck!
