Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiah Shipp.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started creating from a place of survival, imagination, and wanting something bigger for myself. Long before people knew me as Key Monroe, storytelling was how I processed life, relationships, struggle, emotion, and the world around me. I’ve always been drawn to the moments that stay with people after the credits roll — the conversations, the tension, the psychology, the things people feel but don’t always say out loud.
Over time, that evolved into “Key Monroe After Hours,” which became more than content for me. It became a cinematic space for emotional commentary, film notes, reenactments, and late-night conversations about culture, relationships, identity, ambition, and human behavior. I wanted it to feel raw, reflective, stylish, and honest all at once.
At the same time, I founded TaskTend Creative Studio to build original worlds and stories that could live beyond social media. One of the biggest projects under that umbrella is Dream Man Formula, an original psychological AI drama exploring love, technology, loneliness, and emotional control. Creating that series pushed me into producing, directing, writing, branding, and learning how to build an independent creative universe from the ground up.
The journey definitely hasn’t been linear. I’ve balanced work, long hours, financial pressure, creative doubt, and the reality of trying to build something meaningful independently. But every challenge sharpened my vision. What started as posting online evolved into building a brand focused on storytelling, atmosphere, emotional connection, and original intellectual property.
Today, I’m continuing to grow Key Monroe After Hours and TaskTend Creative Studio into something much larger — not just content platforms, but creative worlds that connect with people emotionally and culturally. Atlanta’s creativity, resilience, and energy have also played a huge role in shaping who I am as an artist and entrepreneur.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. It’s been rewarding, but it hasn’t been smooth. A lot of the journey has been learning how to build something meaningful while balancing real life responsibilities, long work hours, financial pressure, and the emotional weight that comes with being an independent creative.
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to believe in my vision before there was outside validation for it. When you’re building something original — especially as an independent creator — there are moments where you’re creating consistently, sacrificing time, investing in yourself, and still not seeing immediate results. That can test your confidence and discipline.
Another challenge has been wearing so many hats at once. With TaskTend Creative Studio and Dream Man Formula, I’m not just creating content. I’m developing concepts, producing, writing, editing, branding, marketing, and figuring out the business side at the same time. There’s no large production team behind me, so a lot of it has come from self-teaching, persistence, and adapting quickly.
I’ve also had to overcome fear, self-doubt, and the pressure of comparison in the social media era. It’s easy to look around and feel like everyone else is moving faster, but I had to learn that building something authentic and long-lasting takes time.
At the same time, those struggles shaped my voice and creative perspective. A lot of the emotional honesty people connect with in Key Monroe After Hours comes from real experiences, real setbacks, and learning how to turn those moments into art, storytelling, and connection. In many ways, the difficult parts of the journey gave the work its depth and identity.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a creative director, storyteller, and content creator focused on building cinematic experiences that blend emotional commentary, culture, technology, and original storytelling. Through “Key Monroe After Hours,” I create film notes, reenactments, visual commentary, and late-night style conversations that explore the emotional and psychological side of movies, relationships, ambition, identity, and modern culture.
I also founded TaskTend Creative Studio, which is the creative home for my original concepts, productions, and long-form storytelling projects. One of the projects I’m most proud of is Dream Man Formula, an original psychological AI drama that explores love, loneliness, emotional control, and the relationship between humanity and technology. Building that project independently pushed me into writing, directing, producing, branding, and world-building in a much deeper way.
What I specialize in most is creating atmosphere and emotional connection. Whether it’s a short-form video, a reenactment, a cinematic monologue, or an original series, I want people to feel like they stepped into a world instead of just watched content. I’m very intentional about mood, dialogue, visuals, music, pacing, and emotional tension.
I think what sets me apart is that I approach content like storytelling instead of trends. A lot of creators focus on fast moments, but I focus on creating moments that stay with people. My work blends film culture, emotional analysis, original characters, cinematic visuals, and social commentary into one universe. I’m not just trying to build viral clips — I’m building intellectual property, emotional experiences, and a long-term creative brand.
What I’m most proud of is continuing to create authentically while building everything independently. Every platform, every visual, every episode, and every idea has come from a real vision and a commitment to keep growing despite obstacles. I’m proud that people are beginning to recognize the emotional honesty and originality behind the work, because that’s always been the goal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think luck can open a door, but consistency, resilience, and vision are what keep you in the room. There have definitely been moments in my life that felt like both good luck and bad luck at the time. Some opportunities came unexpectedly, and some setbacks forced me to completely rethink my direction. Looking back now, even a lot of the difficult moments helped shape the voice and perspective I create from today.
I’ve learned that in creative work, timing plays a huge role. Sometimes you can create something incredible and it takes time before people fully see it. Other times, one unexpected connection, conversation, or piece of content can completely shift momentum. I’ve experienced both sides of that.
I also believe “luck” favors people who continue creating even when things are uncertain. A lot of what I’m building with “Key Monroe After Hours,” TaskTend Creative Studio, and Dream Man Formula came from continuing to work, learn, and evolve during moments where it would have been easier to quit or play things safe.
At the same time, I don’t romanticize struggle. There have been real obstacles — balancing work and creativity, financial pressure, self-doubt, and the unpredictability that comes with building independently. But those experiences gave me emotional depth, discipline, and a stronger understanding of what I actually want to create and represent.
So I’d say luck has played a role, but persistence has played the bigger one. The opportunities that matter most in my life usually came after periods where I kept showing up even when nobody was watching yet.
