Today we’d like to introduce you to Racqueal Farmer.
Hi Racqueal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Atlanta (Marietta specifically), from Savannah for a job offer to work in management for Toys R Us/Babies R Us. Within my first 6 months it became apparent that although my job was geared towards serving parents and new moms, it was not going to serve me well as a first time mom in the slightest. When my request to take off for my daughters 1st birthday party was denied due to blackout season rules (and the store managers daughter having the same birthday as my daughters), I knew I needed to shift to a career with more time flexibility…. and I tapped back into a love I had forgotten about after walking across the stage…. Real Estate. I knew since I was 15 I would take this road after speaking to a guidance counselor, and noticing the huge gap between the haves and the have nots.
It took me 6 months to get licensed, and another 18 months before I stepped fully into the career and sold my 1st home. Every year has come with a new set of challenges, but after reaching my 10 year milestone this month I am more determined than ever to reach new heights in this industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. At first I struggled with the limiting beliefs that come with being a young black girl in a white male dominated industry. Often times I was uncomfortable in spaces I earned the right to be in, and I thank God for mentors like Karen Hatcher and Lee Davenport that constantly reminded me of who I was and why I was there. I had to train my mind to understand that I was building a business, and that no one was going to hand me anything. You eat what you kill, and if you don’t put in the work you starve. Creating a routine of consistency, maintaining discipline, and ignoring the noise in this constantly changing industry is difficult but so worth it. If you can put your head down and just focus for a year, you can build a thriving business in real estate
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business as a real estate professional has always been focused on homeownership education. The reason I got into this business was because I grew up watching people rent and live pay check to pay check, when many of them had the resources to purchase but not the tools. They lacked understanding, education, and guidance and the moment I realized what was attainable I knew I could change the lives of anyone I came in contact with. 80% of the homeownership battle is believing that you can achieve it!
I pride myself on being able to help homeowners and home buyers believe in themselves and my strategies to help them achieve their goals. It’s not always easy, sometimes it stretches me beyond what I believe I’m capable, but God never fails me and in return my clients always win!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me by simply reaching out and saying “hey Rocky, me or someone I know needs some real estate help!”, sharing my content on social media, leaving me a review on google or Zillow, or referring me to the people they know, love, and trust for all of their real estate needs.
