Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Patel.
Hi Dave, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My father started in the restaurant business with a family-run restaurant rooted in traditional Gujarati cuisine. As the next generation, I wanted to expand on that foundation, so I started a catering company specializing exclusively in vegetarian Gujarati food. For the first seven years, that was our entire focus.
As the business grew, so did our clients’ needs. People began asking us to cater larger events with more diverse menus, including non-vegetarian options, and that’s how Art of Flavors was born.
What really helped us stand out was our willingness to think outside the box. Being one of the youngest caterers in the industry, I’ve always focused on bringing fresh, creative ideas to the table, especially through fusion concepts that blend tradition with modern flavors and presentation.
Our goal has always been to create an experience that keeps both generations happy: honoring the authenticity and comfort of old-school family recipes while also exciting younger crowds with innovative, fun, and elevated food experiences.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Like any growing business, we’ve faced our share of challenges along the way. Starting a company at a young age came with a lot of pressure and responsibility, especially in an industry where experience and reputation mean everything.
One of the biggest challenges was earning trust and proving ourselves in a very traditional market. Being one of the youngest caterers in the industry, I had to learn quickly, mature quickly, and grow alongside the business. There were long nights, stressful events, difficult decisions, and moments where we had to adapt fast in order to keep growing.
Another challenge was balancing tradition with innovation. We built our name on authentic Gujarati cuisine, so expanding into fusion concepts and larger-scale catering was a risk. But ultimately, taking those risks and staying creative is what helped us stand out.
Every obstacle taught us something, and those experiences shaped the company into what it is today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is our ability to bridge tradition and innovation. We started with authentic Gujarati cuisine and built our reputation on quality, consistency, and family values, but as the industry evolved, so did we. Today, we specialize in creating elevated catering experiences that combine traditional flavors with modern presentation, fusion concepts, and interactive live stations.
As one of the youngest caterers in the industry, I’ve always approached things differently. I’m constantly looking for new ideas, trends, and creative ways to make events feel unique while still respecting the culture and authenticity behind the food. I think that balance is what has helped us stand out and connect with both older and younger generations.
I’m most proud of the growth we’ve achieved and the reputation we’ve built over the years. We’ve gone from a small catering operation focused only on vegetarian Gujarati food to a company trusted to execute large-scale weddings and events across the Southeast.
At the same time, I’m equally proud of the resilience behind the scenes. There were many moments, especially during COVID and other difficult periods, where things felt uncertain and overwhelming. Building a business comes with constant pressure, sacrifices, and setbacks, and there were definitely times I wanted to give up. But I continued believing in the vision and kept pushing forward even during the hardest seasons.
I think that perseverance, creativity, and willingness to evolve are what truly set us apart. We’re not afraid to take risks, try new ideas, and continue growing while staying true to the family foundation the business was built on.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that consistency and perseverance matter more than instant success. There are going to be setbacks, stressful moments, failures, and times where you question whether everything is worth it. But growth comes from continuing to show up even during the difficult seasons.
I’ve also learned that being willing to adapt is extremely important. The industry is constantly changing, and if you stay too comfortable or afraid to evolve, you can easily get left behind. Some of our biggest growth came from taking risks, trying new ideas, and stepping outside of what was considered traditional.
Another major lesson has been the importance of relationships and reputation. In this business, people remember how you make them feel. Great food is important, but trust, consistency, professionalism, and treating clients like family are what truly build long-term success.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to believe in myself even when others may not immediately see the vision. Starting young came with a lot of doubts and challenges, but over time I realized that hard work, resilience, and staying true to your vision will always speak louder than words.
