Rising Stars: Meet Jenny Hu of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Hu.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as a food content creator started during the COVID-19 pandemic. I noticed that many amazing local restaurants were struggling—not because their food wasn’t good, but because people simply didn’t know about them. As someone from a first-generation immigrant family, I understood how language barriers and limited social media knowledge could make it difficult for small business owners to market themselves effectively.

That inspired me to start creating content that could help bridge the gap between local restaurants and the community. Through photography, videos, and storytelling, I wanted to showcase not only the food, but also the culture, passion, and hard work behind these businesses. What started as a passion project eventually grew into Atlanta_Foodyyyyy, a platform with a strong local following across Instagram and other social media channels.

Academically, I graduated from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in 2024, where I studied marketing and developed strong business communication and branding skills. Those experiences helped me combine creativity with strategy when working with local businesses. Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science at University of Pennsylvania while continuing my work as a creator, marketer, and new mom. Balancing all of these roles has been challenging, but also incredibly rewarding because I’m able to make a real impact in my community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges in the beginning was slow growth. When I first started posting content, there were no viral videos or instant success. Building an audience took a lot of consistency, patience, and resilience. There were moments where I questioned whether all the effort was worth it, especially while balancing school and other responsibilities.

Another challenge has been time management. Right now, I’m balancing graduate school, content creation, client collaborations, and family life as a new mom. It can feel overwhelming trying to manage deadlines, filming schedules, editing, and personal responsibilities all at once. Over time, I’ve learned how important it is to prioritize, stay organized, and take things one step at a time. I’ve also learned that success doesn’t happen overnight, and consistency matters more than perfection.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in food and lifestyle content creation with a strong focus on supporting local businesses and building community connections. My work includes creating short-form videos, photography, social media marketing campaigns, restaurant features, and community events. While food is the center of my content, storytelling is what truly drives everything I do.

I’m especially known for highlighting local restaurants in an authentic and relatable way. Rather than simply posting food photos, I focus on helping audiences connect with the people and stories behind the businesses. Many of the restaurants I work with are immigrant-owned or family-owned businesses, and being able to help amplify their voices is something I’m incredibly proud of.

What sets me apart is the combination of creativity and business strategy. My background in marketing allows me to think beyond aesthetics and focus on how content can actually help businesses grow. I also approach my work with empathy because I genuinely care about the people behind these businesses and the communities they serve. In addition to online content, I’ve hosted offline community events that bring restaurant owners and customers together in meaningful ways, which has helped strengthen those relationships beyond social media.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is making a meaningful impact on the community and helping people feel seen and supported. A big reason I started creating content was because I wanted to help small business owners who may not have had the resources or knowledge to market themselves online. Being able to use my platform to support hardworking individuals and share their stories is incredibly fulfilling to me.

I also value genuine human connection. Whether it’s through online content or in-person events, I love creating experiences that bring people together through food and culture. Food has a unique ability to connect people from different backgrounds, and I believe storytelling can help build understanding and community in powerful ways.
