Today we’d like to introduce you to Jettee.
Hi Jettee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jettee started in a sweaty Southern California garage with a few songs we really cared about and believed in. We played whatever shows we could, whether it was a high school house party, an empty bar, or a state fair pop-up. Right before I graduated high school, we decided we were not going to wait for gatekeepers to let us in.
I had this ceramics class that somehow did not even have funding for ceramics, so instead of making pottery, I started booking our first tour from the back of that classroom. I emailed every venue in every city we wanted to play. Somehow, a lot of them said yes. Suddenly, our little high school band was heading out on its first tour.
That first run had a kind of magic to it. Five best friends chasing something bigger than themselves. We slept on strangers’ floors just to make sure we still had enough money for gas, but none of it mattered because it an adventure.
That was almost two years ago. Since then, we have gone on eight more tours, playing bigger rooms and even opening sold-out shows for some of our musical heroes, people we never imagined we would meet, let alone share a stage with.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where we are now definitely has not been smooth, and we still have a long way ahead of us, but we have learned to embrace the challenge. My dad used to say, “It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong.” That mindset has carried us through a lot of moments where things felt impossible.
One challenge that especially comes to mind was our most recent headlining tour. We had to fly three-fifths of the band from San Diego to Nashville, and honestly, at our stage, every single dollar matters. For a while it felt like the tour just was not going to happen.
Then we had an idea. We burned 50 one-of-a-kind CDs, signed and hand-drew every single one ourselves, and put them online. They sold out in just a few hours, and suddenly we had enough money to get the band out to Nashville. Moments like that have shown us how much this community believes in what we are building, even before the rest of the world catches up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We hope Jettee becomes more than just an indie rock band from San Diego. We want it to feel like a place where people belong. Growing up, I struggled to figure out where I fit in, and honestly, that is a huge part of why I started writing music in the first place.
What we care about most is creating a space where people can feel at home. At a Jettee show, nobody is alone. We are not trying to be the coolest band in the world. We want to be a band that people can actually be a part of. A band where you can show up exactly as you are and feel like you belong there too.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People see all the tours and posts from Jettee and assume we must have this huge team behind us or that we have everything figured out, but honestly, our team is just the band and our manager. We do not have some massive marketing budget or outside machine pushing things forward. Everything people see or hear is made by us, from the videos to the posts to the music itself. We read almost every DM, comment, and email, and the support we get from fans genuinely means everything to us. Every person who shares a song, comes to a show, or tells a friend about the band plays a real part in helping us keep this going.
