Life & Work with Nairobi Armstrong of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nairobi Armstrong.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly, my passion for this work began when I was a teenager. I’ve always had a deep interest in the development of children and their families and how the family system works, which led me to earn my Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences at The Fort Valley State University. I later continued my education by obtaining my Master of Education in Leadership of Educational Organizations.

While I initially set out to build a career in education, I found that the field didn’t quite align with the vision I had for the impact I wanted to make. It was during this period of reflection that I began to pivot and explore new ways to support families, which is how I discovered the role of a doula.

At the same time, I was personally curious about childbirth, as I knew that having children of my own was something I wanted for my future. I realized there were still so many questions I didn’t have answers to, so I decided to take a deep dive into the science of the reproductive system, labor, and the postpartum period. Once I committed to that path, my godmother generously supported my training, and that was truly the beginning of my journey into this work.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the road has been mostly smooth, and I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a strong support system of friends and family behind me. That encouragement was invaluable, especially in those early days as a new doula when it’s so easy to second-guess yourself. When you’re just starting out, you can feel a bit lost, you know you want to book clients, but you’re not always sure of the best way to make that happen. There’s a lot of questioning your own skills, your pricing, and your level of knowledge. However, as I began to work with more families and gain real-world experience, my confidence really began to flourish.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in providing comprehensive, holistic support to families throughout the postpartum period. My focus is on ensuring that families feel empowered, nourished, and well-supported as they navigate the critical weeks and months following the arrival of a new baby. I provide tailored postpartum doula care, placenta encapsulation services, and expert guidance as a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist.

Above all else, what I am most proud of is witnessing families flourish. There is no greater reward than seeing a family successfully transition and find their rhythm in the best way possible after welcoming a new blessing into their home. I feel honored to be a trusted guide during such a transformative time.

What truly sets me apart is the unique blend of my academic background and my professional certifications. While the doula profession does not strictly require formal degrees, I have made it a priority to complement my hands-on experience with extensive education.

By combining this academic foundation, which gives me a deep understanding of family systems and developmental psychology in addition to with my rigorous, specialized training in lactation and postpartum care, I offer a level of evidence-based insight and professional maturity that is rare in this field.

Beyond my credentials, I pride myself on the energy I bring into a home. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental, ‘homegirl’ atmosphere the kind of supportive, loving vibe you’d expect from your closest sister or best friend right after you’ve given birth.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would love for people to know that my work is truly a labor of love. Every family I serve leaves an imprint on my heart. My goal isn’t just to provide a service, it’s to make sure that when I leave a home, the parents feel a little more confident, a little more rested, and a lot more supported. You are doing a great job, and you deserve to be poured into while you pour into your little one.
