Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Omijeh.
Hi Maureen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story begins in Nigeria, where I grew up in a close-knit family that gave me a strong sense of values and determination.
I studied Accounting at university in Nigeria and later earned a Master’s degree in Business Management in the United Kingdom. But honestly, my entrepreneurial spirit showed up long before any of that. While I was still in university I was travelling to Dubai, buying clothing and cosmetics and selling them back on campus. Business was always in my DNA.
After graduating I channelled that energy into building a facility management company in Nigeria. It was a journey of learning, growing and developing the resilience that every entrepreneur needs. The business grew and I ran it successfully for years.
Then in 2023 I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I packed up and moved to Georgia, USA.
Starting over in a new country at this stage of my life was both terrifying and exhilarating. I knew one thing for certain though I was not going to stop building. Real estate development actually found me while I was figuring out my next chapter here in America. And when it did, everything clicked. I got my real estate license, started developing properties in Georgia and haven’t looked back since.
This is just the beginning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but I believe my determination to succeed turned every challenge into a learning curve.
The biggest adjustment has been learning an entirely new way of life. Moving from Nigeria to the United States at this stage of my life meant starting from scratch in ways I never anticipated. A new country. A new system. New rules. New relationships. Everything I had built my network, my reputation, my rhythm I had to rebuild from the ground up.
As an immigrant entrepreneur there are layers to the challenge that people don’t always see. Navigating a new business environment, understanding how things work here, building credibility in a market that doesn’t yet know you none of that happens overnight.
But I made a decision early on. I was not going to see challenges as roadblocks. Every obstacle became a lesson. Every closed door pointed me to a better one.
Real estate development did not come without its own challenges either unexpected costs, learning the landscape of Georgia, building the right team and network. But each of those experiences made me sharper and more prepared for what comes next.
I have learned that challenges are not the opposite of success. They are part of the journey to it.
We’ve been impressed with Royalem international LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Royalem International LLC is a Georgia-based real estate development and consulting firm built on one non-negotiable principle “quality”.
As a licensed real estate agent and developer I offer a full range of services. I acquire bare land and build custom homes for sale. I identify profitable investment properties for clients looking to grow their wealth through real estate. And I help buyers find their dream homes and sellers get the best value for their existing properties.
But what truly sets us apart is our story and what drives us.
I am an immigrant who moved from Lagos, Nigeria to Georgia in 2023 determined to break glass ceilings and build something meaningful in a new country. That journey gives me a perspective that most developers don’t have. I understand what it means to start from scratch. I understand the weight of making a major investment in a place that is still new to you and I take that responsibility seriously.
At Royalem International LLC I am known for delivering quality finishings no compromises. Ever. Because at the end of the day what drives me is not just completing a project. It is that moment when a buyer walks through their new home for the first time moving from one room to the next with a grin on their face that tells me everything I need to know.
That smile is my brand. That smile is what I build for.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me success is achieving a worthy goal.
Not just any goal but one that stretches you, challenges you and means something beyond yourself.
Success is not a destination I am chasing somewhere in the distant future. It is in every milestone along the way. It was success when I built a thriving business in Nigeria. It was success when I made the bold decision leave my home country and start over in America. It was success when I completed my first real estate development in Georgia. And it will be success when the next buyer walks through a home I built and smiles.
I also believe that true success has a ripple effect. When I succeed I want the people around me to feel it. My clients, my community, the immigrants who are watching and wondering if it is possible for them too.
Because if my journey can show one person that it is never too late to start, that you can move to a new country and build something meaningful from scratch then that to me is the most worthy goal of all.
