Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Scott.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over 15 years, I worked in healthcare, specifically in women’s health, pediatrics, and pediatric hospice care. I’ve supported families through the beginning of life, moments of growth, and also some of the most painful and delicate end-of-life experiences. While I valued the work, over time I began to feel like I wasn’t truly helping my community heal in the way I knew was possible.
In women’s health especially, I witnessed how often women — particularly Black women — were dismissed, rushed, or not fully heard during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. The Black maternal mortality rate is far too high, and I saw firsthand how gaps in listening and advocacy contributed to fear and trauma in care settings. What stayed with me most was how many women would quietly say, “You’re the first person who actually listened to me.” That truth stayed with me and became something I could no longer ignore.
My own lived experiences also shaped my path. After experiencing several miscarriages with little to no support or resources, I understood what it feels like to move through grief while still having to function in systems that don’t always acknowledge that pain. Later, when I gave birth to my daughter, I was surrounded by medical staff, yet still felt alone in many ways. In that room, the only person who truly advocated for me, comforted me, and made me feel seen was my mom. That moment deepened my calling into doula work and holistic care.
My parents also deeply influenced my connection to holistic healing. My dad—my “old dude”—always had an interest in herbs and creating tinctures, and that stayed with me. My mom worked in nursing for over 30 years, dedicating her life to caring for others. That foundation shaped how I view care, healing, and service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my greatest ongoing challenges has been balancing my personal responsibilities while building my purpose-driven work. In 2024, my mom suffered a series of strokes and now requires round-the-clock care. At the same time, I am raising my daughter as a single mother and building my business. Managing caregiving, motherhood, healing, and entrepreneurship all at once has been one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
In that same year, I also experienced the profound loss of my dad—my “old dude.” Grieving him while simultaneously caring for my mom and raising my daughter changed me in ways I’m still processing. He always had a love for herbs and tinctures, and losing him made that connection feel even more personal and rooted in my path.
There were many moments where I felt stretched beyond capacity — emotionally, physically, and mentally — trying to show up for everyone while still holding myself together. At times it felt like I was running on empty, but I kept going.
Despite these challenges, I continued forward. That season taught me resilience, but also perspective. It showed me how much my parents poured into me, and it grounded me in the understanding that I carry their legacy forward in how I care for others. It also reminded me not to abandon myself in the process, and to keep building something rooted in purpose, healing, and service.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work focuses on supporting women and families through pregnancy, postpartum, and everyday wellness using a blend of holistic care, herbal education, and emotional support. As a doula, herbalist, and holistic practitioner, I provide care that centers listening, advocacy, and making sure people feel seen, supported, and not dismissed.
A large part of my work includes educating clients on natural support options, creating personalized herbal blends, and offering guidance for stress, recovery, and overall balance. I meet people where they are — whether they need full-spectrum doula support, postpartum care, or help navigating everyday stress in a more natural way.
Through Brittany Holistic Care and Doula Service, LLC, my approach is rooted in whole-person care — physical, emotional, and spiritual — with a strong focus on advocacy and lived understanding.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising to most is what I carry behind the scenes while still showing up for others. I show up with a smile, but many people don’t realize everything I am navigating in my personal life at the same time.
While building my business, I have been caring for my mother full-time after her strokes, raising my daughter as a single mother, and grieving the loss of my father. All of this happened while I continued to show up for clients and hold space for other people’s healing.
There are moments where I have to pause, sit outside, and just look at the sky for a while to reset myself — even if it’s only for 30 minutes — and then I keep going.
Despite what I’m going through, I continue to show up with presence, compassion, and a steady heart because I understand what it feels like to need support in difficult seasons. That lived experience is what allows me to meet people where they are without judgment or distraction.
