Daily Inspiration: Meet Anastasia Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Allen.

Hi Anastasia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story actually began 10 to 15 years ago. At the time I didn’t realize I was writing a book, I was simply writing for my own therapy. A way to sort out and deal with my issues, pains and fears. It helped me sorta see the picture clearly. I was in a difficult space in life, with relationships, both romantic and platonic friendships. Still unaware of the childhood traumas I was carrying, and those closest to me carried also. I began writing this exaggerated but emotionally real relatable story from things I was in, things I saw around me, and in society as a whole. I didn’t have the understanding or the knowledge of how to change that. Like the saying “hurt people hurt people”, I believe “traumatized people traumatize people”. Truthfully, I didn’t realize what was considered “the norm”, or things simply “swept under the rug”, in some communities and homes were toxic, until much later. By the time I realized I had written a story, I didn’t see it as a book at first, I saw it as a tv series. I knew there was so much more to this story.
A couple years ago, I met a person who was looking for a story to write as a script and I gave them my story to transform, because it was only sitting in a computer file. Even though that first attempt at the project being done never got completed, I decided to publish as a noval because I knew the story was meant to be told and would help many others that are experiencing the same types of situations and issues, that we were taught to keep quiet about. My goal is to still have the story turned into the tv series I initially saw it as.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, this journey of publishing and marketing the book has been a smooth road because I found publishers to handle the hard part of the paperwork for me. But I think speaking out about some of these topics that I cover in the book is the hardest part, but even that is getting easier now that I see other women, as well as men, have faced similar things and are ready to heal. It’s real life that we’ve kept bottled up inside.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Right now I am most proud of being the author of the new best seller “Tangled Webs: Nique’s Memoir”, which is available on major platforms that sell books. Also available at Black and Nobel in Philly. This was definitely something that exceeded my expectations. From this I have began writing stories in scripts for film. I am now making connections in that field. I plan to explore this as a career in storytelling touching topics that while entertaining will also cause us to reflect on certain situations and help us become better for ourselves and one another. I also look to help create safe spaces and groups to allow these topics to be discussed, so we can begin to heal as a whole.

How do you think about happiness?
I am grateful when people let me know I made their day by simply smiling, or my energy, or taking the time to ask how they are and actually listen. We have became so busy as a society in our own worlds (which is understandable) that sometimes we forget to be social and present with those physically nearest to us. Sometimes all it takes is a smile, or kind words of recognition, or simply a listening ear. We all need that.
