Check Out Ariel Chavarro Avila’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Chavarro Avila.

Hi Ariel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 1970 I was born in the Central Andes Mountains of Colombia, I fell in love with the natural world and by inspiration and instinct I started drawing animals, flowers, insects, landscapes, plants, rivers and trees. I new I needed to let the world know my feelings, my emotions, my sensitivity and how proud I have been feeling about our Planet Earth, regarding its magnificence, wonders, how amazing and powerful it is in every sense. I am an environmental contemporary minimalist artist working in the medium of painting particularly with oil and watercolour. I have been collaborating with artists, curators, galleries, dealers, foundations, museums and organisations around the world. I have been campaigning to plant millions and billions of trees worldwide and to educate children in poor rural areas globally.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many challenges throughout my life, beginning with a poor background, my father and my mother, who I have been very proud of, they did not have many resources to educate five children and with a tremendous effort, tenacity and determination they managed to give all of us primary, secondary and university education, which has been fantastic for all of us. Then I had to leave Colombia because the lack of opportunities for artists at the end of 2000. I lived and worked as an artist in Spain for over 12 years, then I moved to Chelsea in London were I had a lot of success professionally and since August 2023 I have been living and working as an artist in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an abstract and a contemporary artist, I paint and through my art I tell stories about the natural world. Nature gives me a lot of inspiration, it is changing and transforming constantly with textures, colours, shapes and with the variation of light everything looks different. I am very proud to be a human being, who appreciates every detail when I look and observe the Natural World, which I am so very proud of, because it is stunning and magnificent. My style and uniqueness are different from other artists.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Atlanta, it is a very modern city, dynamic, energetic full of culture, variety and contemporary architecture which I enjoy, but the most I like it is its people, they are friendly, welcoming and respectful. Also I really enjoy it is going to the different suburbs like Roswell, Woodstock and many others, where you can find a lot of forests and country side. Perhaps the least I like it is the traffic, to commute is quite difficult in the mornings and the evenings.
