Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Smith.
Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to creative entrepreneurship was born a bit out of necessity and a bit out of stubbornness. After living in mold while contracting Covid 19 and having my body rearrange how it interacts with the world, and ending a relationship that was tied to my employment, I couldn’t physically or emotionally return to the traditional workforce so I set out to use all of my artistic and creative talents to heal my own body, continue my herbalism journey, launch a podcast, step into accountability and life coaching, grow as many gardens as possible, and never leave my dog home alone for more than 3 hours. My passion is creating safe spaces in the world for full spectrum humans where no one has to be alone with their shame and fear.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been some ups and downs on my path, the biggest one for me personally being finding housing that doesn’t create health problems for me. Over half of all homes in America have toxic mold growing inside and exposure to that creates immense brain fog for me, along with other health issues. Navigating housing while also navigating starting a business from scratch while also connecting with clients and creating products and art and keeping my health up has been nothing short of a juggling act.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I do life coaching and love to put my analytical mind to work creating systems and routines for clients, I spend most of my free time creating art in all forms. I love to collect bits of nature and trash and incorporate them into my work. I love to forage and create folk remedies with under appreciated plant friends. I believe we have a responsibility to the earth and I love to collect litter and everyday trash and use it in my art pieces. While herbalism is my most practiced art form, I like to experiment with lots of different mediums for more visually artistic creations. I have been loving acrylic paint for a long while but am excited to step into some other more eco friendly pigments (tbd). I’ve lately found myself writing quite a bit, poetry of sorts and also some longer form content- more just letting words flow. I think my speciality is my versatility and connection to God. I love trying new things and just seeing what happens. I love to let Spirit flow through me and see what our Creator wants to use me to create.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the vibe of Atlanta. It was one of the first places I traveled solo to as a sweet young 18 year old and I was enamored with all the museums and history. I visited most of the major neighborhoods and loved chatting with everyone I passed. I wasn’t too fond of all the folks who were speaking fear into my itinerary, I found everyone to be lovely, despite the warnings.
