Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Gemin!.
Hi Prince, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started writing poems and short stories in middle school, which eventually evolved into songwriting during my senior year of high school. During college, I began independently releasing music under my government name, but over time I realized I wanted to create something bigger than just songs. I wanted to build an entire artistic world.
Although I’m originally from Durham, North Carolina, Atlanta has been home for over 15 years and became the place where I truly developed my identity as an artist. Over the past 7 years, I’ve continued evolving creatively, but about 2 years ago I rebranded as Prince Gemin! and became intentional about every aspect of my artistry. From the music and visuals to the overall experience surrounding the project.
What makes my journey unique is the duality I exist within. Outside of music, I work as a registered nurse, so my life has always balanced structure and emotion, logic and fantasy, realism and escapism. That contrast naturally became the foundation of my art. Music became a space where I could merge vulnerability, storytelling, cinematic visuals, and emotional world-building into one experience.
My debut EP, High at the Disco, was over 6 years in the making. Many of the songs and ideas were originally written while I was in nursing school, but I intentionally waited years to release the project because I hadn’t fully discovered my visual identity or sonic world yet. Once everything aligned creatively, I finally brought the project to life the way I always envisioned it.
Sonically, my work blends alternative R&B, psychedelic pop, retro-disco influences, and emotional storytelling. I write all of my own songs. I am heavily involved in every part of the creative process as well, including vocal production, harmony arrangement, visual direction, branding, and live performance concepts. For me, the goal has never been to just make music people hear. It’s to create something people can fully step inside of and emotionally experience.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to build something ambitious and deeply personal without sacrificing the quality of my art. As an independent artist, I’ve had to balance working full-time in healthcare while simultaneously developing my music, visuals, branding, performances, and overall creative direction from the ground up. There were times I was working exhausting nursing shifts while still filming visuals overnight, funding projects myself, and trying to execute the level of quality and world-building I envisioned for Prince Gemin!.
Another challenge has been navigating an industry that often rewards familiarity over originality. As a Black queer artist creating outside of traditional boxes, I’ve had moments where I questioned why certain artists or aesthetics were embraced more easily in spaces my work naturally aligned with. That forced me to confront deeper conversations around visibility, marketability, colorism, and how unconventional artists are perceived within the industry. Over time, I realized I couldn’t build my career around waiting for validation from spaces that may not immediately understand my vision.
I’ve also learned that being independent means constantly having to protect both your art and your resources. There are a lot of scams, pay-to-play opportunities, inflated promises, and situations that look good on the surface but don’t actually move your career forward. I became very intentional about focusing on opportunities with real impact and long-term value instead of making decisions purely for ego or appearances. Sometimes that meant turning down performances, showcases, or industry opportunities that didn’t align with the level of experience, audience, or return I’m trying to build.
At the same time, those challenges taught me how to trust my instincts, think strategically, and remain patient with my growth. They forced me to become more self-sufficient, more disciplined, and even more committed to building something authentic and lasting instead of chasing trends or temporary attention.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an independent artist and creative director operating under the name Prince Gemin!, where I blend alternative R&B, psychedelic pop, retro-disco influences, and cinematic storytelling into immersive artistic experiences. Beyond making music, I specialize in building full creative worlds combining songwriting, vocal production, harmony arrangement, branding, visual direction, and live performance concepts into one cohesive vision.
Duality is a major part of who I am and how I create. As a Gemini, I naturally think in layers. Layers as logic and emotion, fantasy and reality, structure and freedom, intimacy and illusion. That shows up in my day-to-day life and in my artistry. Outside of music, I work as a registered nurse, so I’m constantly balancing precision and care, discipline and creativity. That contrast gives my work its emotional tension and depth.
One of the things I’m most proud of is my debut EP, High at the Disco, which was over 6 years in the making. Many of the songs were originally written while I was in nursing school, but I waited years to release the project until I fully understood my artistic identity, visual language, and sonic direction. That patience taught me the importance of intentionality over rushing for attention.
What sets me apart is my thought process. I don’t just ask, “How does this sound?” I ask, “What world does this live in? What does it look like? What does it feel like? How does the audience enter it?” I’m very hands-on with the writing, vocal production, harmonies, visuals, branding, and live performance concepts because I want every part of the experience to feel connected.
At the core of everything I create is the desire to make people feel transported. I want listeners to feel like they’re stepping into a universe when they experience my music, visuals, and performances. Not just consuming content, but emotionally entering a world.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Right now, I’m very intentional about who I collaborate with because the world I’m building as an artist is deeply detailed, cinematic, and emotionally intentional. I’m not necessarily looking for collaborations just for the sake of networking or exposure. I’m more interested in building with people who genuinely understand world-building, storytelling, atmosphere, and artistic intention.
I’m especially interested in connecting with experienced photographers, cinematographers, creative directors, sound engineers, producers, stylists, and visual artists who naturally lean toward alternative, cinematic, experimental, or genre-bending work. People who understand how to take an abstract vision or emotion and translate it into something visually and sonically impactful.
One thing I’ve learned as an independent artist is that having talent and ideas is only part of the process. Finding the right creative ecosystem matters just as much. A lot of my growth has come from becoming more selective and intentional about the people and opportunities I align myself with. I’d rather build slowly with the right team than rush into collaborations that don’t truly elevate the vision.
The best way people can support me right now is by engaging with the art, sharing the music and visuals, attending live performances, and continuing to help grow the world of Prince Gemin! organically.
