Inspiring Conversations with Nella Miller of The Safe Well

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nella Miller.

Nella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been deeply drawn to people, connection, and creating environments where others feel supported, confident, and genuinely cared for. Long before The Safe Well existed, I spent years working in Human Resources and Learning & Development, where I trained thousands of professionals, led employee development initiatives, and discovered how much the right environment and strategies can impact the way people communicate, learn, perform, and move through life. That experience taught me that people don’t just need information, they need to feel safe, supported, and empowered while receiving it.

At the same time, becoming a wife and mother completely changed the way I viewed safety, wellness, and preparedness. Emergencies suddenly stopped feeling hypothetical. Like so many parents, I found myself thinking about the “what ifs” more often and realizing how many people quietly carry anxiety around not knowing what to do in critical moments involving the people they love most.

One conversation in particular stayed with me deeply.

A close friend shared that in the panic of the moment, their family rushed their aunt who was choking at the time into a car instead of immediately performing choking response measures, and tragically, she passed away before receiving the help she needed. I remember sitting with that story long afterward because after years of teaching and training emergency response, those steps had become second nature to me. Hearing the pain in my friend’s voice made me realize something much bigger: lifesaving skills should not only feel accessible to healthcare professionals or people in emergency fields.

Families deserve access to this knowledge. Parents deserve it. Grandparents, babysitters, neighbors, caregivers…everyone. Beyond access, people deserve opportunities to practice these skills in environments that feel approachable, welcoming, community-centered, and even elevated instead of cold or intimidating. Not once or twice but often.
That realization became the beginning of The Safe Well.

I founded The Safe Well to create a more modern, lifestyle-centered approach to safety education — one that blends preparedness, wellness, hospitality, and human connection. We teach certified CPR, First Aid, AED, and emergency preparedness for all ages in a way that feels approachable and confidence-building rather than fear based. Whether we’re hosting a Coffee & CPR workshop, training a corporate team, or partnering with a wellness brand, the goal is always the same: helping people leave more calm, capable, and confident than when they arrived.

What started as a passion for family safety has grown into a much larger vision. I’ve become deeply interested in the intersection of wellness, operations, hospitality, and preparedness, especially within modern wellness spaces, med spas, fitness studios, cafés, and community-centered businesses. I believe safety should feel integrated into the experience of care, not separate from it. Some things in life we can prepare for, and some things we simply can’t control, but through all of it, I knew I wanted The Safe Well to feel like a safe place for people a place rooted in compassion, community, confidence, preparedness, and genuine care instead of fear or judgment.

Today, The Safe Well is evolving into more than traditional training. It’s a brand centered around helping people, families, and businesses create environments that feel both elevated and prepared. At the heart of it all is a belief I come back to constantly: safety is wellness.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trying to build The Safe Well while navigating major life changes has probably been one of the biggest challenges of all. A lot of the early stages of this business were built during seasons where I was also becoming a mother of 2 little ones under 2, rebuilding professionally, learning who I was outside of work environments, and trying to create something meaningful from the ground up.

There were moments where I was answering business emails during nap time, brainstorming workshop ideas while folding laundry, or staying up late after bedtime working on branding, partnerships, and event concepts because those were the only quiet hours I had. I think a lot of women, especially mothers, understand what it feels like to hold both excitement and exhaustion at the same time.

I even remember being hospitalized for several days during one of the earliest stages of building The Safe Well — right as some of my first meaningful partnerships were beginning to come together. I remember sitting in that hospital room answering emails between resting, not because I believe in glorifying burnout, but because I cared so deeply about what I was building and the people trusting me with those opportunities. Looking back now, that season reminds me how much heart, faith, resilience, and determination went into building this brand long before people ever saw the finished events or polished content online.

Another challenge was building something that didn’t fit neatly into a traditional category. The Safe Well isn’t just a CPR company, a wellness brand, or a consulting business, it exists at the intersection of preparedness, hospitality, education, wellness, and genuine community. Early on, I questioned whether people would fully understand the vision because it intentionally looked different from what already existed in the safety and education space.

With over 8+ years of HR and Learning & Development experience I naturally think about experiences, communication, team culture, confidence-building, and how people feel inside environments. While that perspective has become one of my greatest strengths, it also meant learning to trust myself enough to build something differently instead of following a more traditional path.

At the end of the day, every challenge has reinforced why this work matters to me. Watching someone walk into a workshop nervous and leave feeling genuinely empowered is incredibly rewarding. Seeing businesses become more intentional about preparedness, team culture, and client care reminds me that this is about much more than certifications. It’s about creating safer, more thoughtful communities and experiences.

We’ve been impressed with The Safe Well, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Safe Well was built from a very simple belief:
Preparedness should feel modern, elevated, and rooted in community.

Not cold.
Not intimidating.
Not rooted in fear.

Just real people learning how to care for the people they love.

That’s why our experiences look different.

There’s conversation, connection, coffee, food, music, beautiful spaces, thoughtful details, and real-life practice. Sometimes we’re learning CPR and First Aid with our hair down, jewelry on, dressed for brunch, straight from work, or with little ones in our laps, because life doesn’t pause and emergencies rarely happen under perfect conditions.

I never wanted safety education to feel disconnected from everyday living.
I wanted it woven into it.

We laugh. We practice. We ask questions. We share stories. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, people begin building something even more important than memorization…confidence.

Because preparedness isn’t just about responding in an emergency. It’s about creating environments where people feel calm, capable, supported, and connected enough to care for one another well.

What excites me most is helping businesses rethink what safety can look and feel like within modern spaces. Because of my healthcare business background, I naturally approach preparedness through the lens of team culture, client experience, operations, wellness, and hospitality.

I’m especially passionate about partnering with wellness-focused brands, med spas, physician offices, fitness studios, cafés, luxury family spaces, and community-centered businesses to create environments that feel both elevated and intentionally prepared.

To me, preparedness is part of the overall experience of care.

People already trust these spaces with their wellness, vulnerability, families, and everyday lives. I believe safety should be woven into that experience in a way that feels seamless, empowering, and beautifully aligned with the brand itself.

That’s the long-term vision behind The Safe Well: creating modern safety and preparedness experiences that live naturally within wellness, hospitality, lifestyle, and community.

We also believe preparedness should meet people where they are. That’s why we offer virtual training options, travel for on-site experiences, and provide private in-home trainings and CPR parties for families who prefer learning in the comfort of their own home. Some of our most meaningful experiences happen gathered around kitchen islands, living rooms, and dining tables.… creating a more relaxed, personal environment where families can practice together, ask questions openly, and build real confidence in a space that already feels safe and familiar.

At its core, The Safe Well exists to help people feel more prepared to care for themselves and others, while proving that lifesaving education can still feel beautiful, welcoming, and empowering.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
A lot of my inspiration comes from a mix of faith, entrepreneurship, wellness, hospitality, leadership, branding, and intentional living. My faith has been a huge part of how I’ve navigated both business and personal challenges over the last several years. In many ways, it’s been the foundation that’s kept me grounded while building The Safe Well through seasons of growth, uncertainty, motherhood, and transition.

The Bible and faith-based resources centered around purpose, resilience, stewardship, and caring for people well have deeply shaped the way I approach both life and business. I’m constantly reminded that the way we make people feel matters, and that meaningful experiences, genuine connection, and serving others with excellence all have lasting impact.

I’m also deeply inspired by spaces and brands that create a feeling of warmth, comfort, connection, and intentionality. Some of my favorite places to draw inspiration from are coffee shops, wellness spaces, boutique hotels, local restaurants and libraries, places that understand how environments can shape the way people feel emotionally. I think people are craving meaningful connection and experiences now more than ever, and I believe education should be able to exist within those environments too.

A few books that have really stayed with me are Atomic Habits by James Clear and Grit by Angela Duckworth. Both reinforced the idea that meaningful growth is often built through consistency, resilience, intentionality, and continuing to show up even during difficult seasons, something that has deeply resonated with me throughout my journey building The Safe Well.

I also love podcasts, TED Talks, and creators that focus on thoughtful entrepreneurship, wellness, leadership, hospitality, branding, and community-building. I’m especially inspired by women like Tabitha Brown who have built brands rooted in authenticity, warmth, faith, community, and genuine care for people while still creating meaningful business impact. That blend of purpose, hospitality, wellness, and human connection is something I admire deeply.

On the creative side, I use Canva, Pinterest, and Instagram constantly for creative direction, storytelling, event inspiration, and branding ideas. I’m always thinking about ways to make learning feel more approachable, elevated, empowering, and human-centered.

More than anything, I hope The Safe Well becomes known for creating experiences where people leave feeling more connected, more confident, more prepared, and genuinely cared for. I want people to walk away feeling energized, refreshed, empowered, and reminded that preparedness doesn’t have to feel rooted in fear or treated like a one-time conversation. I believe safety can feel warm, modern, welcoming, and deeply human , something woven into everyday life, community, wellness, and the way we care for one another. Because at the heart of everything is that…..Safety is Wellness.
