Meet Trudean Haye of Philadelphia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trudean Haye.

Hi Trudean, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a desire to create something of my own while making a meaningful impact in the communities I come from. As a Black immigrant and multi creative entrepreneur, I have always been driven by both purpose and possibility. I began working in marketing, brand strategy, and communications, helping entrepreneurs build businesses that reflect who they are and what they stand for.

At the same time, giving back has always been a core part of my path. I founded ITAVFoundation when I was 19 years old to support underserved communities in Philadelphia and my home country Jamaica. Later, that work expanded into broader advocacy, including my role as Executive Director of the Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation and Vice President of the Ricky Codio Foundation.

Along the way, I have learned that building a career is not separate from building a life. Motherhood, personal growth, and lived experiences have shaped how I lead, create, and show up. Today, my work sits at the intersection of entrepreneurship, creativity, and community impact, and I continue to build in ways that are both intentional and meaningful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, and I do not think it is meant to be. Every stage of my journey has come with its own challenges, from building businesses to balancing leadership, motherhood, and personal growth at the same time.

There have been moments of uncertainty, loss, and having to rebuild in ways I did not expect. Navigating pregnancy after loss, leading organizations while going through major life transitions, and continuing to show up for others while learning to take care of myself have all shaped me in ways I could not have planned for.

I have also had to learn how to move forward without always having all the answers, how to trust my vision even when it felt unclear, and how to create space for both ambition and rest. The journey has required resilience, but it has also taught me patience, perspective, and the importance of building with intention.

Looking back, the challenges are what gave my work depth. They pushed me to lead with more empathy, to build with purpose, and to stay grounded in why I started in the first place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work sits at the intersection of entrepreneurship, creativity, and community impact. I am a multi creative entrepreneur, creative director, and nonprofit leader, and I specialize in building brands, developing community centered initiatives, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Through my work in brand strategy and creative direction, I have helped entrepreneurs and organizations build strong, authentic foundations that reflect both their vision and their purpose. At the same time, my nonprofit work allows me to directly serve communities through programs focused on education, maternal support, and health advocacy. Whether I am building a brand or leading a community initiative, my approach is rooted in storytelling, strategy, and intention.

I am known for being able to bridge multiple worlds. I can sit in a room discussing brand development and then step into a community space and lead with the same level of care and clarity. That ability to move between creativity, business, and advocacy has become a defining part of my work.

What I am most proud of is the impact that has been created over time. Not just in what has been built, but in the people who have been supported, the conversations that have been started, and the spaces that have been created for others to grow and feel heard.

What truly sets me apart is my approach to how I support others. I do not believe in simply giving people what they need in the moment. I believe in teaching, equipping, and creating pathways so they can sustain themselves long after the interaction. There is a principle I live by that says if you give someone something, it may help for a moment, but if you teach them, it creates lasting change. That mindset shapes everything I build, whether it is a brand, a program, or a community initiative.

My work is deeply rooted in lived experience. I am not creating from theory. I am building while living it in real time as a mother, a leader, and a creative, and that perspective allows me to connect with people in a way that is both intentional and lasting.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I do not necessarily view myself as a risk taker in the traditional sense. Most of the decisions I make are calculated, intentional, and grounded in planning. I believe there is a difference between taking risks and being prepared to move forward with clarity, even when there is uncertainty.

I think people often assume that having a vision or a solid plan guarantees a certain outcome, but that is not always the reality. Things do not always unfold the way we expect, and that is why I believe it is just as important to plan for what could go wrong as it is to plan for success.

I live by the mindset of planning for failure while still hoping for success. Not in a negative way, but in a way that allows me to stay grounded and adaptable. It means I am always thinking through different scenarios, preparing for challenges, and making sure that I can pivot when needed.

So for me, it is less about taking risks and more about being intentional. I move with purpose, I plan with awareness, and I accept that uncertainty is always part of the process. That balance allows me to build with confidence while still remaining flexible enough to adjust when things do not go as planned.
