Meet Malika Rucker of Titi’s sweet treats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malika Rucker.

Hi Malika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey with baking started from a very personal place. After being diagnosed with PCOS, I began learning more about nutrition and finding foods that worked better for my body. As I explored healthier options, I started experimenting in my kitchen, creating gluten-free desserts and treats that allowed me to enjoy sweets without feeling like I was missing out.

What started as a way to support my own health quickly turned into something much bigger. Friends, family, and customers began trying my desserts and encouraging me to share them with others. Their support and love for my creations inspired me to turn my passion into a business, and that’s how Titi’s Sweet Treats was born.

Today, Titi’s Sweet Treats is more than just a bakery—it’s a reflection of creativity, perseverance, and the belief that everyone deserves delicious desserts made with care. I specialize in custom cakes, treats, and desserts that help people celebrate life’s special moments, and I love being part of those memories. Watching my business grow from a personal health journey into a thriving small business has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced challenges balancing family life, health concerns, finances, and the demands of running a business. Starting a bakery from home meant learning everything from baking and decorating to pricing, marketing, customer service, and managing business finances.

One of the biggest struggles has been believing in myself and recognizing the value of my work. As a small business owner, it’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel pressure to do more, but I’ve learned that growth takes time and consistency.

There have also been challenges with rising ingredient costs, investing in equipment, and building a customer base, but every obstacle has taught me something valuable. Those experiences have helped me become more confident, improve my skills, and continue growing Titi’s Sweet Treats into a business I’m proud of.

Looking back, the struggles were part of the journey, and they’ve made both me and my business stronger.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Titi’s Sweet Treats is a home-based bakery specializing in custom cakes, dessert tables, and handcrafted sweet treats for all of life’s special occasions. From birthdays and baby showers to weddings and corporate events, my goal is to create desserts that not only look beautiful but taste just as amazing.

While we offer a variety of desserts, we’re especially known for our custom cakes, dessert shooters, chocolate-covered treats, cookies, and creative dessert displays. Every order is made with attention to detail and designed specifically for each client, allowing them to bring their vision to life while adding my own creative touch.

What sets Titi’s Sweet Treats apart is the personal connection I build with my customers. I truly care about the people I serve and understand that every celebration is important. I take pride in creating desserts that become part of meaningful memories for families and loved ones.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of building Titi’s Sweet Treats from the ground up through hard work, passion, and word-of-mouth support from my community. What started as baking for my own health journey has grown into a business that allows me to express my creativity while bringing joy to others.

I want readers to know that when they order from Titi’s Sweet Treats, they’re getting more than just dessert. They’re receiving a custom experience, quality ingredients, attention to detail, and a baker who genuinely loves what she does. My mission is to make every celebration a little sweeter and leave a lasting impression with every bite.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t necessarily describe myself as someone who takes reckless risks, but I do believe in taking calculated risks when there’s an opportunity for growth. To me, risk isn’t about jumping into something blindly—it’s about believing in yourself enough to take the next step, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

One of the biggest risks I took was turning my passion for baking into a business. Like many entrepreneurs, I invested my own time, money, and energy into something that had no guarantee of success. There were moments when I questioned whether people would support my business, whether I was charging enough, or whether I was capable of building something sustainable. Choosing to keep going despite those uncertainties was a risk in itself.

As my business has grown, I’ve continued to take risks by investing in equipment, expanding my menu, taking on larger events, and putting my work out for the public to see. Every new product, service, or business decision comes with some level of uncertainty, but I’ve learned that growth often happens outside of your comfort zone.

My perspective on risk has evolved over time. I’ve learned that failure isn’t the biggest risk—never trying is. Even when things don’t go exactly as planned, there’s always a lesson to learn and an opportunity to improve. Those experiences have helped me become more confident as both a business owner and a person.

For me, the greatest reward has come from believing in myself and taking a chance on a dream that started in my own kitchen and has grown into a business that serves my community today.
