Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Zunt.
Hi Zach, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2020, one of my closest friends passed away, and his parents gave me one of his cameras. What began as a meaningful gift quickly became a passion. I instantly fell in love with photography and was fortunate to have friends in the industry who helped guide me as I learned the craft.
I started photographing weddings, where I developed a strong foundation in camera operation, composition, and storytelling. When I arrived at Kennesaw State University, as a student I was given the opportunity to intern and combine two of my greatest passions—sports and photography. During my time there, I also had the opportunity to work with Georgia Tech Athletics, further developing my skills in a fast-paced collegiate sports environment and gaining valuable experience covering high-level athletes.
From that moment on, I was hooked.
I fell in love with every part of the process: the late nights editing, the early game days, the fast-paced environments, and the opportunity to collaborate with talented creatives. The relationships I built along the way opened doors that allowed me to take the next step in my career and begin working in professional sports.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Team Photographer for Atlanta Vibe, working with colleges all over Georgia, and now in my 3rd season working with the Atlanta Dream, gaining invaluable experience capturing elite athletes and telling compelling stories through sports imagery. Each opportunity has strengthened my passion for creating impactful photos and documenting moments that connect people to the game.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think most creatives would agree that the beginning is always a struggle. Building a portfolio, getting your name out there, and finding opportunities in the industry can be challenging, but those experiences help you grow and develop your style.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer based in Atlanta who specializes in sports photography. While I cover a variety of sports, my primary focus is basketball and volleyball. I’m probably best known for my work with the Atlanta Vibe.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the community around me. Atlanta is filled with incredibly talented creatives, and that’s what makes it such a special place to be. Being surrounded by people who constantly inspire and push each other to grow is something I never take for granted.
I think what sets me apart is my personality and the relationships I build while maintaining the professionalism that sports photography demands. It’s important for creatives not only to learn about the athletes and subjects they’re capturing, but also to connect with the people around them. Those relationships help create a more meaningful experience both on and off the court.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My biggest advice for anyone looking to grow in this field is to remember that your network is your net worth. The people you surround yourself with play a huge role in how far you can go and how much you can learn.
It’s also important to shift your mindset around mentorship. Rather than focusing on finding a single mentor, look at the people who are already where you want to be and learn from them in every way you can. Observe their process, ask questions, and take in as much knowledge as possible from those experiences.
