Community Highlights: Meet Dj La Luna of La Luna Sounds LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj La Luna.

Dj La Luna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my start as a college student at The University of South Florida. During a party my school dance team hosted on campus is where I informally met my first DJ mentor. Unbeknownst to me, our paths crossed again later in life and he put me through a crash course of DJ’ing 101. After months of making me play the same song over and over again, until I perfected the transitions – I felt ready to try out my skills at home. So that Christmas I asked my mom for a controller and the rest is history!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? What’s that? Let’s start with the main elephant in the room – DJ’ing is a male dominated sport! So my career so far has been like most things in life, not linear. Entering the game as a female gets tricky. If I show up makeup free, no heels, or in what I think is a fly sweatsuit – I’m instantly asked if I’m okay, if I’m sick, or if I’m tired. My male peers don’t experience this. When I’m booked I have ensure it’s not just for my looks, click bait, or flyer enhancements. There have been times where I’ve been booked because of my following alone. None of these things have anything to do with my actual skillset. My craft is most important to me and I work really hard to perfect it.

We’ve been impressed with La Luna Sounds LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creating La Luna Sounds LLC provided me the opportunity to legitimize the business behind the art. I started La Luna Sounds LLC in 2025 to give myself a platform to expand my musical skillsets in various ways to include, music consulting, producing, engineering, and DJ mentorship. Most importantly I started the organization to ensure equitable pay for myself and other artists/proteges that entrust me to provide guidance and feedback to them. I’m most proud of the give back energy that flows through everything I do. Putting others on, and providing opportunities to others is what drives me forward. Someone betted on me so it’s the least I can do!
Including “Sounds” at the end of my organization’s name was no coincidence. The intention behind it is to showcase the musical ear I was blessed with and allow me in spaces where I can help up and coming artists with song selections, production, everything!
What I want to highlight most is my team! Staring La Luna Sounds LLC has allowed me to bring on top talent to represent me, my brand, and the professional side of the organization. Having a manager that gets it and now growing a social media team has taken me from figuring it out on my own to running a legitimate business.
