Today we’d like to introduce you to Gera Robinson.
Hi Gera, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Chef Gera Robinson is the Founder and Executive Chef of The Posh Kitchen, a luxury personal chef and catering company serving clients throughout the Philadelphia region, Atlanta, and beyond. Known for creating elevated dining experiences with a personal touch, Chef Gera has built her business on the belief that great food brings people together and creates lasting memories.
Her love for cooking began at an early age. Growing up without cable television, she spent countless hours watching cooking shows on PBS, fascinated by the chefs, techniques, and creativity she saw on screen. As the oldest daughter in her family, she naturally found herself in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes and helping prepare meals. Her mother encouraged her curiosity by purchasing ingredients for whatever recipe she wanted to try. By the age of nine, Chef Gera was already attempting ambitious projects—including making fresh pizza completely from scratch.
Although cooking was always a passion, it wasn’t until her mid-twenties that she realized it could become a career. After moving to Atlanta in her twenties, she reached a point where she wanted a greater sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Knowing that food had always been her passion, she enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu Atlanta, graduating in 2013 and turning a lifelong interest into a professional career.
Following culinary school, Chef Gera launched The Posh Kitchen. Like many entrepreneurs, however, she balanced building her business while working professionally in restaurants, hotels, catering companies, and private dining environments. These experiences allowed her to refine her skills, develop her leadership style, and gain a deeper understanding of hospitality. Atlanta became the city that truly shaped her as a chef, helping her hone her craft and develop the confidence to build a brand of her own.
It was also in Atlanta where Chef Gera began building an impressive private client base, securing her first NFL players, professional athletes, and celebrity clients. Working with high-profile clientele taught her the importance of discretion, customization, consistency, and exceptional service—principles that continue to define The Posh Kitchen today.
In 2019, Chef Gera returned to Philadelphia to begin a new chapter. While rebuilding her business in a new market came with challenges, she brought with her years of experience, relationships, and a strong foundation built in Atlanta. She continues to serve clients in both cities and frequently travels back to Atlanta, where many of her long-standing clients remain.
In 2020 during covid, she fully committed her attention to growing The Posh Kitchen into the luxury culinary brand it is today. The company now offers private chef services, in-home dining experiences, meal concierge programs, corporate events, and upscale catering. Chef Gera’s culinary style combines restaurant-quality execution with warm hospitality, creating experiences that are both elevated and approachable.
What started as a curiosity for food and a desire to recreate the dishes she saw on television quickly became a lifelong pursuit. From experimenting with homemade recipes as a child to building a luxury culinary brand serving professional athletes, celebrities, families, and corporate clients, Chef Gera’s journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and believing in your talents long before anyone else sees the vision.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road.
For one, I was supposed to be in communications, so it took me some time to even realize I wanted to be a chef. Once I went to culinary school, I was working multiple jobs to pay for school, and there were plenty of times I was exhausted. But I made it through with perseverance.
Working in professional kitchens, I dealt with racism and sexism. I still remember working in a kitchen where the sous chef told me, “I don’t think women should be in the kitchen.” He then put me on the line with little to no prep, and in my opinion, it was to see me fail. But another Black female chef stepped in to help me, and we killed the service.
As a Black woman, it’s hard for people to take you seriously in the restaurant industry. You don’t see a lot of us as Executive Chefs at top restaurants. You have to be tough, confident, and command respect, or people will run over you. Kitchens test you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Working 60-hour weeks, getting home at midnight, working every holiday, and missing family gatherings, birthdays, and celebrations takes a toll on you.
The pay isn’t always the best, and sometimes you have to decide whether you want the experience or the paycheck. Being a chef is demanding and challenging. I’ve been broke plenty of times trying to pay rent, working two chef jobs, and pushing myself to exhaustion. There were moments when I questioned everything. My mental health has been tested plenty of times.
In 2020, the restaurant I worked for closed due to COVID and never reopened. Instead of looking at it as a setback, I used it as an opportunity to focus on my business full-time, and it’s been flourishing ever since.
I manifested working with NBA, NFL, and MLB athletes. I didn’t have handouts or connections in the sports industry. The clients started coming to me, and every year the opportunities have continued to grow.
Of course, running a business comes with its own challenges. Managing staff, inconsistent income, marketing, client relationships, and operations is completely different from running a kitchen. Being a great chef doesn’t automatically make you a great business owner. I’ve had to learn a whole new set of skills.
Finding balance in my personal life is another challenge because I typically work weekends and holidays when everyone else is off. It can be a lot. But I’m currently in a growth stage of my business, learning what works, what doesn’t, and figuring out the right moves to take The Posh Kitchen to the next level.
Entrepreneurship is hard. You’ll make mistakes. You’ll have setbacks. You’ll question yourself. But every lesson teaches you something, and you have to keep moving forward. That’s exactly what I’ve done throughout my career, and it’s what I continue to do today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Posh Kitchen ?
The Posh Kitchen is a high end personal chef and catering company that specializes in creating elevated culinary experiences for busy professionals, families, athletes, corporate clients, and those looking to celebrate special occasions. We offer private chef services, in-home dining experiences, meal concierge services, catering, corporate events, cooking classes.
One of my specialties is working with professional athletes. Over the years, I have worked with NBA, NFL, and MLB players, and I became certified in sports nutrition because I wanted to provide more than just great-tasting food. I wanted to better understand how nutrition impacts performance, recovery, energy levels, and overall health. Some chefs simply cook food, but I focus on cooking for the athlete. I look at the science behind the food and how each meal can support training, recovery, performance, and long-term wellness. Understanding what makes a meal athlete-friendly allows me to create menus that not only taste great but also serve a purpose.
What makes The Posh Kitchen different is that we focus on personalization. No two clients are the same, so no two menus are the same. Whether I’m preparing weekly meals for a family, creating performance-focused menus for professional athletes, or catering a special event, everything is customized to the client’s needs.
Another thing that sets me apart is professionalism. There are a lot of chefs out there right now, and many have built their businesses through social media or by learning to cook at home. While there’s nothing wrong with that, I come from a professional culinary background. I attended Le Cordon Bleu and spent years working in professional kitchens before building my business. My clients know they can count on me to show up prepared, execute at a high level, and deliver a consistent experience every time.
One thing I hear repeatedly from clients is that I always exceed expectations. I believe in going above and beyond, paying attention to the details, and making sure every client feels valued. Anyone can cook a meal, but creating a seamless experience, providing excellent service, and building trust is what keeps clients coming back.
Personally, my favorite service is private dining. I love creating high-end plated dinners in clients’ homes because it combines everything I enjoy about hospitality. I love the ambiance, the table settings, the attention to detail, and the beauty of bringing a restaurant-quality experience into someone’s home. Many of our events include custom tablescapes, curated presentations, and full-service hospitality. We don’t just provide the food—we help create the entire experience from start to finish.
I am also known for my versatility. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, from families and corporate professionals to professional athletes and celebrities. I’ve cooked everything from intimate dinners and weekly meal prep to large-scale events. That diversity has allowed me to become a well-rounded chef who can adapt to different clients and situations with ease. I can cook various cuisines from soul food, french, asian, italian, mediterranean, new american to attract different clientele. I just don’t cook sushi lol
Brand-wise, I am most proud that The Posh Kitchen was built from the ground up. There were no investors, celebrity connections, or shortcuts. Every client relationship, referral, and opportunity was earned through hard work, consistency, and delivering exceptional service. What started as a dream after culinary school has grown into a respected brand that serves clients in both Philadelphia and Atlanta.
I want readers to know that The Posh Kitchen is about more than food. It’s about creating experiences, celebrating milestones, supporting busy lifestyles, and bringing people together around the table. Whether it’s an intimate dinner, weekly meal service, an athlete nutrition program, a corporate event, or a luxury catered celebration, my mission is always the same: to provide exceptional food, genuine hospitality, and an experience that feels both elevated and personal. At the end of the day, I want every client to feel like they received more than they paid for and more than they expected. I give my clients everything I have and more!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’m really good at my job! As I get older I am looking to transition out of food so book me while you can lol I do travel though all over so I am not just centered in Philly. I still work in Atlanta as well. Ive worked with superbowl champions jordan davis, aj brown, and nba champion mikal bridges . I am highly blessed and grateful to have some of the best clients ever!
