Meet George Lewis of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Lewis.

Hi George, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Anecessarie Film started out of a passion for producing short films and web series for our YouTube channel. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with a vibrant community of creatives and actors, helping showcase their talent both in front of and behind the camera. Together, our core objective has always been to bring diverse storytelling to the communities we serve.

Consistency is what got us to where we are today. By consistently creating our own content, we continuously leveled up our skills as a video production team. Additionally, by filming directly within local neighborhoods across The Bronx, Harlem, Queens, and Brooklyn, we caught the attention of residents who noticed and truly appreciated our work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and we still have a long journey ahead. Our ultimate goal is to direct and produce content for major streaming services, film festivals, and movie theaters. Right now, our two biggest hurdles are funding and exposure.

This is a highly competitive industry where success often requires major studio backing or deep financial resources. Because we are independent, we have to work twice as hard to get noticed. However, navigating these challenges has only made us more resourceful, forcing us to find creative ways to produce high-quality work with the resources we have.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a filmmaker, my passion lies in bringing authentic, human-centered stories to the screen. At Anecessarie Film, we specialize in creating high-quality, cinematic content that resonates deeply with our audience.

What sets me apart is my ability to produce content to a “Hollywood standard” on a shoestring budget. While many productions rely on massive backing, I have mastered the art of maximizing limited resources to deliver professional, compelling work. I am most proud of our evolution from a dream producing short films and web series into a production house that actively serves and uplifts our community.

My proudest milestone is our first web series, Caught Up. The production was a true test of grit; I faced numerous setbacks, including multiple recasts and moments where finishing seemed impossible. However, we persevered. Despite having zero budget for marketing or paid promotion, the series found its own audience, eventually accumulating over 700,000 views and earning recognition as a “must-binge” web series on Balivity.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are seeing massive shifts right now. Traditional Hollywood models are evolving, and social media platforms have fundamentally changed how content is discovered. I feel like Anecessarie Film sits right at the intersection of both worlds.

We actually began creating content before Instagram and TikTok dominated the landscape, back when the only goal was getting a foot in Hollywood’s door. Today, the landscape is decentralized. You no longer need a massive studio or network backing to build a deeply loyal audience.

At the same time, we are cinema purists. Bringing our stories to the silver screen will always be the ultimate goal. What’s exciting about the next 5 to 10 years is that these two worlds don’t have to compete. Independent filmmakers can use digital platforms to scale their audience and prove demand, which then opens the doors to traditional theatrical and streaming releases. One ecosystem feeds the other.
