Life & Work with Star The Musician of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to Star The Musician.

Hi Star, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

# The Story of STAR THE MUSICIAN

My journey in music started when I was five years old. I grew up in the church, where faith, family, and music were deeply rooted in my upbringing. My grandmother made sure we were always involved Bible study, choir rehearsal, Vacation Bible School, morning service, evening service you name it, we were there. Being surrounded by musicians and singers at such a young age naturally inspired me to pursue music for myself.

According to my mother, one of the first signs of my passion came when she bought me a recorder as a child. She always tells the story of how I carried that recorder everywhere to school, outside, to church, even to the dinner table. Music quickly became more than a hobby; it became part of who I was.

As I grew older, I became heavily involved in the church music ministry, eventually serving as a youth choir director and youth leader. Those experiences taught me leadership, discipline, and the importance of using music to bring people together.

Throughout high school, I continued developing my craft through marching band, performing arts programs, and formal music training. During that time, I was also signed to a boy band from the ages of fourteen to seventeen. We had incredible opportunities ahead of us, but after the tragic passing of our drummer, the group was disbanded. While it was a difficult chapter, it pushed me to continue studying music independently and deepened my commitment to the art form.

My musical journey eventually led me to serve in the United States Army, where I performed as a member of the 156th U.S. Army Band. One of the highlights of that experience was having the honor of performing for miliatry officers, and classified ceremonies. The military further strengthened my musicianship, professionalism, and understanding of music at a high level.

After my military service, I returned home and continued my education and musical development at Grambling State University. There, I became a member of the world-renowned Tiger Marching Band and further expanded my knowledge as both an instrumentalist and vocalist. I later earned a degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Vocal Music, adding formal academic training to years of practical experience.

Along the way, I also performed with Titus & Company, a late-night R&B band that helped shape my live performance style and exposed me to new audiences and musical influences.

About eight months ago, I made the decision to step forward as a solo artist under the name STAR THE MUSICIAN. I chose that name intentionally because I wanted to honor the years of dedication I’ve invested in becoming a complete musician. Many artists are talented vocalists, but I wanted my identity to reflect the fact that I am a vocalist, instrumentalist, composer, arranger, songwriter, and music educator. Every note, every rehearsal, every performance, and every lesson contributed to the artist I am today.

My sound is influenced by a variety of genres, including R&B, Pop, Gospel, and Rock. I don’t believe in limiting myself to one category because music is a universal language. You will hear those influences throughout my writing, vocal arrangements, and upcoming projects. Some of my greatest inspirations include Michael Jackson, John Legend, Luther Vandross, and Bruno Mars, whose artistry, musicianship, and stage presence continue to inspire me.

Beyond music, my faith remains at the center of everything I do. I am a Christian, and I strive to be Christ-centered in both my personal and professional life. While I am not exclusively a gospel artist, my spirituality heavily influences my music, my decisions, and the way I interact with people. I believe every major opportunity and decision deserves prayer and guidance.

Growing up wasn’t always easy. As a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, my family experienced significant financial hardship during my childhood. From a young age, I witnessed the challenges that come with poverty and adversity. However, through God’s grace, supportive parents, mentors, teachers, and community leaders, I was able to continue pursuing my dreams. Those experiences shaped my resilience and taught me the value of perseverance.

As a first-generation college student, there were many moments when I felt like I was navigating unfamiliar territory. There wasn’t a roadmap laid out before me. I had to learn, adapt, and push forward despite obstacles. Those challenges only strengthened my determination to create opportunities not only for myself but also for those who come after me.

Today, I am in what I call my “working season.” I’m focused on building, creating, networking, and developing the projects that will define the next chapter of my career. I am currently working on new singles, EPs, and album material that I am excited to share with the world.

My ultimate goal is simple: to lead with love, connect people through music, and use my gifts to serve others. I believe music is one of the most powerful forces for unity, healing, and inspiration. The supporters who follow my journey are what I call “The Galaxy” a community built around positivity, creativity, faith, and a shared love for music.

At the end of the day, I believe our gifts are not meant to be kept to ourselves. They are meant to be shared. My mission is to continue growing as an artist, creating meaningful music, and inspiring others through every performance, every song, and every opportunity God places before me.

This is only the beginning.
