Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Balmer.
Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hey, I’m Alex. My story isn’t tied to one place. I’ve moved around my whole life between Alabama and Illinois, and because of that, I had to figure out who I was without relying on a set environment. Music And creativity were the first things that allowed me to unwind and process things in a way that helped me think and feel at ease. I never tried to fit in, I was just real and over time I realized I was building an identity. That’s where RLS came from. Growing up between different places taught me how to adapt, but also to stay true to myself. I eventually moved to Iowa but it’s just a stop not where I’m meant to stay forever. Every place I’ve lived added something to me but none of them define me. I’ve always been some one who moved intentionally I don’t chase attention I let people discover me naturally.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride. One of the biggest challenges was trying to stay grounded with constant change. Moving around made it hard to feel settled, and I had to learn how to build myself with my own consistent rhythm. Another struggle was trying to stay focused on my creativity while dealing with constant change around me. Music and magic tricks became the only thing that stayed the same for me, and that’s kept me centered. I also had to trust myself and keep moving foward, those challenges taught me how to adapt, stay true to my core, and keep going no matter what.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an artist and the founder of RLS Music Group. I create from a place of intention and identify, not noise. My work is built around loyalty, honesty, movement, and the way I see the world. I’m known for blending creativity, music, and even magic into something that feels personal and real. What I’m most proud of is the fact that everything I’ve built came from staying true to myself. I didn’t chase external validation and big scene pathways, I created my own lane. RLS started as an idea and grew into a real identity and movement, what sets me apart is the way I move I’m not loud or performative, I don’t chase attention, I let my work speak for itself. My sound, approach, and mindset all come from my heart and soul, and people feel that when they here my music or see what I’m building.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the industry is shifting toward more independence and authenticity over the next 5-10 years. Artist are realizing they don’t need big labels or huge teams to build something real. People connect with genuine voices not manufactured ones. I also see creativity becoming more blended music, visuals, storytelling and even things like close up magic coming together in new ways. The artists who stand out who will be the ones to create their own lanes instead of fitting into trends. I think the biggest shifting be artists having more control over their sound, their identity, and their business. The ones who stay humble and true to themselves are going to rise because people can feel what’s real and what’s not.
