Life & Work with Rozayy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rozayy.

Hi Rozayy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly the story starts from when I was born. I literally came out the womb beating on my highchair and playing with drum sticks. Both of my parents are musicians, my mom was always singing around the house and my dad plays bass for different bands, so I was always around instruments and hearing different music. I started to officially learn piano and how to read music at 8 years old and that eventually lead into playing drums for church and playing percussion for my school concert band. I started to dabble in beat making in high school with this app on my iPad but I didn’t hone in until my sophomore year of college. After hearing Travis Scott for the first time, I forced myself to learn FL Studio and I never put it down since. I wanted to recreate the experience his music gave me, giving the listener something they’ve never heard before.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s so much that goes into being a creative that it gets over whelming at times. From attaining fundamental music knowledge to learning how to deal with people to learning how to market and brand yourself, it truly is something you have to be passionate about for it to work out. Coming up I struggled a lot with gaining the trust of my peers which is one of the biggest things for producers is for artists to be able to trust your input and vision, because the producers guides the sonics and structure of the song. So when there is no trust or chemistry between the two it will show in the music. But my biggest struggle has been learning who to give time and energy to because people have different intentions and most artists aren’t intentional at all which is a waste of time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Multi-Genre Music Producer. I create instrumentals but I also specialize in bringing an idea to its final form by guiding artists and musicians sonically and keeping the song structure on point. I mainly specialize in all genres of hiphop, pop, & alternative, but I have touched just about every mainstream genre. I am known most for my versatility and consistency while incorporating my own sound and flavor to every track. The best way to describe the sound is experimental, atmospheric and cinematic- every track creates a vivid feeling and picture in the listener’s mind while sounding familiar and unfamiliar simultaneously. But I think the main thing that sets me apart is my work ethic and how much I care about the music. I try to stay away from just sending beats I am always in the studio while the artist is recording to make sure everything is cohesive. Just being in the room sometimes will elevate the energy of the song and bring out the best performance in everyone involved.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Coming up I took a lot of inspiration from my former mentors, Speshelitz and CoChixe (pronounced co-cheese). Being in the studio with them taught me the importance of being in the sessions and guiding the artists through the song sonically. Those experiences helped me learn what a hit record sounded like and the process it takes to get there. And I can’t thank everyone enough that has supported, spoke confidence into me, streamed or shared a song etc. you have no idea how much that does for me and keeps me going!
