Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Clotfelter Kate Hill.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our business was organically grown over our love of Mahjong.
At first we played in a small group for a couple of months before we launched our first summer Mahjong event. We partnered with our original teachers and had an overwhelming response. That following spring we were constantly being asked by friends and acquaintances to learn mahjong. The game was starting to have a resurgence, and we knew it had to be expanded in our Marietta community . Most of us were golfers wives, and we all wanted a special hobby and reason to all gather together.
Mahjong was taking off and growing. We loved all the accessories Mahjong provided , and wanted to incorporate that along with our events background into curating fun events.
That summer we decided to form our own Mahjong events business.
Now almost three years later we have partnered with over 10 local business, taught hundreds of students Mahjong, and are now hosting our first out of town retreat.
The community we have built has brought so many women together, formed friendships and supported local Marietta small businesses.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have been fortunate with very little bumps along the way. We have had amazing community support. Our friends and family have been a huge encouragement and supporters of our events. They have helped guide us and give us advice, along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
People in our community know us for our specialty events that bring people together and help support local businesses.
We are most proud of the groups of people we bring together at our Mahjong events. The camaraderie and friendships that span generations, is truly special. Our mahjong community tells us all the time how our events have brought so much joy in their lives, one way or the other.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
What we love about mahjong! It is a game that can be played for an hour or make a leisurely day out of it.
It’s all about filling your cup so that we can be better wives, mothers and friends. The challenge is a game in itself! National mahjong league releases a new card every year so just when you think you have it figured out, the challenge begins again! We grew up playing games as a family and really love learning something new. We’ve also tried to curate different kinds of events and opportunities to play so that we can capture as many women as we can so that it’s attainable with your lifestyles. Moms especially get pulled in so many different directions that we wanted to make it easy to come and enjoy a night or a morning away without the stress of hosting, food prep, inviting etc.
