Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamez T..
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Jamez T., an Atlanta-based film director, producer, creative director, and founder with more than 25 years of experience across film, music, and visual branding. Formerly known professionally as King_Yao (King Yao), I built my early reputation working behind the scenes on tours, music videos, photography, and creative campaigns that taught me how to connect stories with audiences. That journey led to the launch of TJK Plus and Genisys Films, where I create cinematic experiences and strategic visual content for artists, entrepreneurs, and brands.
Today, I serve as co-producer and BTS director on the international feature film Boyz Trip, working alongside director and creative partner Kyle Scott, while also developing and producing the upcoming Next In Line series. I am also collaborating on new projects with NBA champion David West as I continue expanding my work across film, media, and entertainment.
My mission is legacy—using my lens to elevate overlooked voices, mentor emerging creatives, and build projects that create lasting impact. For me, Jamez T. represents more than a name; it represents excellence, leadership, and storytelling that inspires people long after the credits roll.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been rebranding my professional identity while continuing to work as a film director, producer, and entrepreneur. I originally built recognition under the name “King_Yao,” but as my career evolved, I realized I needed a brand that could grow alongside the larger vision I was building. That led to the transition to Jamez T.
The process was far more than changing a name. It meant rebuilding my public identity, aligning years of work under one vision, and creating a foundation that could support future projects across film, media, and business. At the same time, I was still directing productions, producing content, and serving clients.
I approached the transition the same way I approach filmmaking: with vision, strategy, and execution. Every challenge became an opportunity to refine the brand, strengthen the message, and build something with long-term value. The experience taught me that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about consistency, adaptability, and having the courage to evolve.
Today, Jamez T. represents more than a name. It represents a commitment to excellence, creative leadership, and building stories, companies, and opportunities that leave a lasting impact. The journey is still unfolding, but the foundation is stronger than ever, and I’m excited about what comes next.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a film director, producer, and creative entrepreneur focused on music videos, narrative projects, and branded visuals. I run Genisys Films and TJK Plus, where I lead projects from concept through delivery for artists, brands, and storytellers. I specialize in translating music and culture into cinematic visuals—everything from tour content and feature-film work to visuals for artists like Rich Tha Kid, Lil Yachty and EmanuelDaProhet. What I’m most proud of is building a body of work that feels intentional on both sides: the art and the business. I treat every project like a collaboration between client, audience, and future opportunities, and I approach my own brand the same way—consistent, professional, and built to last.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
What people may not immediately see is that my work as Jamez T.—film director, producer, and creative entrepreneur—is built on discipline just as much as creativity. Beyond the cameras and production sets, a large part of my foundation comes from self-reflection, consistency, and mental focus.
I spend a significant amount of time sharpening my mindset and maintaining balance through long walks, physical discipline, and intentional reflection. That internal structure directly influences how I lead projects and how I execute vision across film and business.
My work through Genisys Films and TJK Plus is not just about creating visual content—it’s about purpose-driven storytelling. Every project is designed to inspire perspective, elevate ambition, and encourage people to build something meaningful in their own lives.
At the core, I don’t just see myself as a creator of visuals—I see myself as someone building impact through discipline, clarity, and long-term vision.
