Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabitha Fielteau.
Hi Tabitha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been designing womenswear since 2014, creating collections that focused on a woman who is chic, sophisticated, and smart. As my design career grew, I expanded into custom bridal wear, where I learned the importance of fit, craftsmanship, and creating garments tailored to each individual woman.
My passion for design eventually merged with another passion in my life—motorcycling. As a rider, I quickly realized there were very few options for women who wanted motorcycle gear that was both protective and stylish. Most gear was designed with men in mind, and the women’s options often lacked fashion, fit, or both.
In 2019, my husband and I launched Chic Riot to change that. We set out to create motorcycle gear and apparel designed specifically for women, combining fashion, safety, and comfort.
Today, as I continue to evolve as a fashion designer, Chic Riot has become a brand that continues to inspire me to create fashion forward motorcycle gear within a set parameter while putting safety at the forefront.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a business takes patience, resilience, and a willingness to learn from setbacks. I believe no road is without its challenges, but you should always apply what you learn and allow that to help dictate how you move forward.
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced with Chic Riot has been finding manufacturing partners who can consistently deliver the quality, fit, and attention to detail that our brand demands. Honest labor practices and small batch quantities is also important to us. Because we’re committed to creating motorcycle gear specifically for women, our standards are high, and finding the right partners has taken time. While it’s been a challenging process, it’s also taught us valuable lessons and allows us to remember why we started Chic Riot.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a fashion designer and entrepreneur who specializes in creating clothing for women who invest in quality and fashion. My background is in womenswear including couture bridal, special occasion, everyday looks, and prom where I developed a strong focus on fit, craftsmanship, and designing for the unique needs of women.
Today, I am best known as the co-founder and designer of Chic Riot, a women’s motorcycle gear brand that combines fashion and safety. What sets Chic Riot apart is that we design specifically for women riders. Rather than adapting men’s gear, we create pieces that are made to fit women’s bodies while still providing the protection riders need.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that fills a gap in the motorcycle industry and gives women more options. Seeing customers feel confident, protected, and excited to ride in gear that truly reflects their style is incredibly rewarding. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to blend fashion, function, and personal style to create products that truly helps women riders and passengers.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I think the biggest complaint most people would agree on is the traffic. It is frustrating and time-consuming. Fortunately, riding a motorcycle makes it a little more bearable and gives me a different perspective on getting around the city.
What I love most is the city’s creativity and culture. From the murals and museums to the vibrant food scene and the energy of the city lights, there’s always something inspiring to discover. As a designer, I especially appreciate being surrounded by art and creativity, which can definitely be found here!
