Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Morrison Okeleke.
Hi Tamika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out in my early twenties with a simple dream: the freedom to live life on my own terms. To get there, I took a corporate route after graduating from college, landing at an international Fortune 500 company. I absorbed corporate culture for seven years at the top levels. It was an invaluable experience, especially thanks to the brilliant women executives who mentored me while I served as their Executive Assistant and analyst.
My superpower has always been creative writing. I’d been crafting plays, poems, and songs since my teenage years and even kept a written journal from age 11, so I naturally channeled that energy into corporate communications. Before long, I took that love for words to the public, freelancing as a food critic and writer for a local arts culture publication and PRIDE Magazine.
The assignments were fantastic, but the connections were even better. In 2006, someone noticed my drive and asked me to handle PR for a Charlotte nonprofit. That was the catalyst. I quietly launched my own PR agency, pulling double duty with my full-time corporate role and my freelance writing gigs. It was a lot to juggle, but I’ve always been a go-getter—when you see the path to your freedom, you take it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is the road ever smooth? Of course, there were challenges—honestly, too many to name in one interview. But what I will say is this: every single challenge I faced taught me something invaluable. I learned lessons in managing finances, figuring out how to charge properly for my time, and choosing the right clients for my leadership style. Plus, there were the practical realities of running a business, scaling it, and protecting our intellectual assets. It’s been a masterclass in entrepreneurship!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about T.MORRISON GLOBAL COMMS?
My work is a writer’s body of evolution. What started as a PR agency, T.MORRISON Global Comms, supporting nonprofits, musicians, and high-profile leaders to build credible platforms has evolved into full-scale brand development. Today, we encompass brand visuals, voice, and messaging, guiding leaders through their entire expansion journey.
Through our proprietary Brand Astrology™ methodology, we have perfected the concept of identifying archetypes and pairing them with your brand personality to audit, ignite, and realign brands so they can operate from absolute authenticity.
After years of working behind the scenes as an editor for publications and authors, we recently launched TMORRISONPR IMPRINT®. What sets us apart is our holistic, multi-dimensional approach to storytelling. We recognize that a leader’s insights shouldn’t just live in temporary media cycles; they deserve to be preserved and studied.
If you are a leader ready to step into your next dimension of impact, we are here to help you own your narrative, codify your brilliance, and build a brand that endures. Whether through strategic advisory, public relations, or legacy publishing, we ensure your message doesn’t just reach the market; it shifts it.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how innovative and diverse Charlotte is. It is a vibrant city where there is always something incredible to experience, from outdoor markets and cultural festivities to market crawls in our distinct city districts. I never tire of simply walking through our beautiful neighborhoods and many parks. There is truly nothing I dislike about Charlotte; it’s my hometown!
